About Gary

Gary Gallant’s successful 30 year career in government affairs and law demonstrates that effective Washington advocacy demands a combination of high-level contacts across all branches and agencies of government, bipartisan access and relationships, and (most importantly) the ability and desire to “dig deep” into complex issues, truly understanding the client’s stake in a matter, and charting a thoughtful and deliberate course to achieve objectives and ultimately provide the client with a tangible return on investment.

Gary launched the Gallant Government & Law Group in February 2018 after more than 19 years in “big Washington law.” As an attorney for some of the world’s largest law firms, including Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, Bingham McCutchen, and Swidler, Berlin, Shereff, Friedman, Gary led successful lobbying campaigns on some of the most high profile matters in a generation.

Gary’s law practice also flourished during these big firm years, advising dozens of clients on complex and high-stakes campaign finance rules, regulations, and compliance. Over the years, Gary started and managed robust political action committees (PACs) for many corporate clients. His motto in these sensitive matters is “to always be conservative and stay out of the press.” Gary is also one of the leading Washington experts on the Lobbying Disclosure Act (LDA), the Congressional and Executive Branch Gift Rules, and congressional ethics.

Prior to jumping into the private sector in 1999, Gary served as the Chief of Staff to Representative Jim Saxton of New Jersey. In that capacity, Gary had oversight responsibilities for the Congressman’s legislative and political agenda. He drafted the Congressman’s press releases and managed three of his successful reelection campaigns. Gary remains politically active in Republican circles and regularly assists the Republican National Committee, the National Republican Senatorial Committee, and the National Republican Congressional Committee with voter integrity legal operations.

Gary is a licensed and practicing attorney in the District of Columbia, the State of New Jersey, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He is also licensed to appear before the United States Supreme Court. He earned his J.D. at Rutgers University School of Law in Camden, New Jersey.

Gary and his wife Trish live in Annapolis, Maryland with their three children, Gabrielle, Grace & Jack. In his free time, Gary enjoys coaching little league baseball and cheering on Philadelphia sports teams.

How did you build a successful practice?

I believe in always being honest and forthright with my clients. They need to know THE TRUTH every step of the way. That means I don't just tell my clients what they WANT to hear, but what they NEED to hear. If a lawyer-client relationship is founded on that kind of honesty and trust, good results can be expected.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Honesty and Direct Talk Respect (Legal representation is about helping people) Intensity (Client needs come first)

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

I've worked in Washington as an attorney for over 20 years. I know the neighborhoods, the courthouses, the decisionmakers. Those relationships and familiarity are key to mounting the best possible defense.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

Obviously, the complexity of the matter will determine how deep the consultation will get, but in almost every case the person calling for the consultation will end the call with a strong understanding of who I am, my background, my experience with the issue(s) involved, my initial analysis of the possible outcome(s), and an explicit sense of the costs associated with engaging my services. There will be no "hiding the ball" on any aspect of the discussion.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

The client needs to feel comfortable sharing EVERYTHING related to the matter - knowing that even though it is a ""free consultation"" the information shared is protected by the attorney client privilege. I will not share the information we discuss with anyone. As long as the client shares all of the details about the matter, I can assess the situation and provide the client with a blueprint of what needs to be done, the likelihood of success, and how much the legal services will ultimately cost.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

Former Prosecutor (Knowledge of the process used by ""the other side,"" respect from the ""other side,"" tried dozens of criminal matters) Experienced in Felony and Misdemeanor Matters Outstanding communication skills

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

WINNING! That's what a legal matter is all about. Now, there can be different ways to ""win,"" but I believe strongly in ""leaving it all on the field"" for every single one of my clients.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

Family Sports (Fan of Philadelphia Teams) WINNING! (On the field, and IN COURT)

Are you involved in your community?

High School Baseball Coach in Maryland and Serve on Board of Directors for Local Youth Sports organization
