Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

I recall a situation where opposing party was trying to get custody (and did not mind splitting up siblings in the process.) I worked to prevent this and my client got sole legal and physical custody.

How did you build a successful practice?

One client at a time. I try and work closely with each client and when I am working on their case, I block out everything else. Second, I try and keep open communication with my clients, and they have ready access to me unless I am in court or in meetings, in which case they hear back from me in 24 hours or less.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Integrity...you don't want your lawyer sugarcoating things to tell you only what you want to hear. Other key attributes are honesty, skill, flexibility, and trustworthiness.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

It helps when one has previous experience with a particular judge, especially if the earlier experience was positive.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

I typically can pride some general knowledge of the law, options for the client, recommendations for proceeding, and in family law cases, my hourly fee (and for limited representation cases, a fixed fee) as well as answer any question that is "top of mind" for the client.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

I work had to keep my skills current. I routinely take a lot more education hours per year than is mandated by the State Bar. I am a graduate of the national Institute of Trial Advocacy's signature course on trial preparation.
