Hillary C. Agnost's practice focuses on insurance coverage, insurance litigation, and appeals, with a special emphasis on intellectual-property claims, business and statutory torts, construction disputes, contractual-indemnity disputes, malpractice claims, employment cases, personal injury, and habitability claims.

Hillary advises major domestic insurers regarding the litigation and mediation of insurance-coverage disputes, as well as the drafting of coverage correspondence. She has handled insurance bad-faith litigation and complex inter-insurer disputes involving a wide variety of coverages, including commercial general liability insurance, employment practices liability insurance, property insurance, professional-liability insurance, commercial-auto and trucking insurance, and personal lines. Hillary also has handled several appeals in both state and federal court, such as the respondent’s brief on appeal in Prince v. United National Ins. Co. (2006) 142 Cal.App.4th 233 (holding that the deaths of two children in an overheated automobile arose out of the use of that automobile within the meaning of a foster-parent policy’s automobile exclusion).

Hillary is licensed to practice before all courts of the State of California, the United States District Courts for the Northern and Central Districts, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Hillary earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Comparative Literature from the University of California at Berkeley in 1997, graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. While in college, Hillary, who is fluent in Spanish, also completed a Minor in Spanish Language and Literature and spent a year studying abroad in Granada, Spain. She received her J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law in 2002 and was admitted to the California Bar that same year.

Hillary is a member of the San Mateo County Bar Association and the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California and Nevada.
