The client's husband had taken nude photographs of her for their own private use. He wound up publishing them on an adult bulletin board. She began receiving text messages from phone numbers she did not know and the people attached those photos and told her if she did not send more, they would publish the photos on her social media. At about the same time, the police arrested the husband for having thousands of pieces of child pornography. I was able to obtain an order of protection for her and got her divorced without the father having any parenting time(what we used to call visitation).

It's been difficult. I started with a couple of referral services and build on that. Then, through word of mount I started getting other clients. The key is to provide quality legal services.

They should first make sure the lawyer is in good standing with the Illinois Supreme Court's attorney regulation enforcement. If there is something way in the past that occurred, you needn't worry. They should make sure the lawyer has malpractice insurance as accidents CAN happen. Beyond that, the clients should make a connection with the attorney before they hire him/her/them. Depending on the area of law you are looking for, you will be dealing with your attorney on a regular basis and you need to have some rapport with him/her/them.

Local knowledge is EXTREMELY important. Less so in Cook County where there are hundreds of judges. In the collar counties, attorney's get to know the judges, how they are likely to rule, etc. Without that knowledge, you will not know whether you should seek to change judges (you have an absolute right before the judge makes a substantive ruling) and you and your lawyer will not be received particularly well.
