About Ivette

Ivette Labied moved from Cuba to the United States with her family at age 16. She graduated from high school with top honors and went on to Miami-Dade Community College and Florida International University. In December of 1997, Ivette received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Ivette went on to work as a registered nurse for several years as an intensive care and emergency room nurse, among other areas. It was during this time that she decided to become an attorney and continue helping others, but this time from a different level. Ivette received a Juris Doctor Degree in December 2003 and soon thereafter she became a member of the Florida Bar. In 2011, she decided to pursue an LL.M in Transnational Commercial Practice which she completed in 2013, while in Europe. During this time, and in preparation of the future, Ivette became a Certified European Union Mediator, while also partaking in events such as the 1st World Mediation Summit which brought together professionals and world leaders in conflict resolution in the city of Madrid, Spain.

Ivette is a member of the Dade County Bar Association, The Young Lawyers Division, Association for International Association of Professional Women, American Bar Association, The Business Law Section of the American Bar Association, Florida Workers Advocates, International Trade Council, Global Trade Chamber, and Workers Compensation Section of the Florida Bar. In addition to these memberships, she performs pro bono work for different organizations that include: Florida Medical Reserve Corps, Lawyers for Children of America, Lawyers to the Rescue, Put Something Back, and the American Red Cross.

In addition, when not busy practicing law, Ivette uses her years of medical experience participating in International Medical Missions giving back to those in need.

Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

I have been involved in a case for about 10 years now in which my client suffered a work-related accident and after we won a claim for permanent disability, she signed a general release in another case she had against the same employer with a different attorney. She had no idea what she was signing and the attorney representing her on the other case reassured her that signing the document will have no impact on her worker's compensation case. Long story short, all her benefits in her worker's compensation case were suspended and it took almost a year and a lot of fighting to win her benefits back. This was a huge win on behalf of my client who would have otherwise lost close to a million dollars in benefits.

How did you build a successful practice?

I have built a successful practice surrounding myself with the right people who share the same goals, fighting for the clients, never giving up and always keeping in mind, the clients are the reason we are successfully in business.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Trust, accessibility, truth and perseverance.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Extremely important but more important is to know the case law well and knowing your case head to toe.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

Success rate, experience, and likelihood of successfully having an excellent impact on the case I am about to take on.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

Facts of the case in order to determine if I can help the client.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

I only take cases that I know I can win and make a difference in my client's life and the client will always have my cellphone and therefore have direct access to me at all times without having to speak to a secretary or paralegal.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Making a difference in my client's life and obtaining benefits that have been wrongfully denied.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I love working as a nurse (I used to be a nurse before becoming an attorney) for non-profit organizations.

Are you involved in your community?

Absolutely, I am involved in a couple of non-profits so I can give back to my community in more meaningful ways.
