About J.

J. Richard Owensby received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from the University of Arizona in 1964. He then attended the University of Missouri, earning a Master of Arts degree in Accounting in 1965 and his law degree in 1968. He joined the firm upon graduation from law school.

Mr. Owensby's primary areas of practice are estate planning and probate administration, as well as an emphasis in real estate, commercial and corporate law. In addition to his individual estate planning and estate administration clients, Mr. Owensby represents a wide range of commercial clients, including large and small corporations, financial institutions, and local franchise operations.

Mr. Owensby is an experienced speaker, having presented numerous seminars on estate planning and probate topics to civic, religious and social groups, as well as to other attorneys in Southwest Missouri in connection with the Missouri Bar Association's mandatory Continuing Legal Education requirements. He serves on the Probate and Trust committees of the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association, the Missouri Bar, and the American Bar Association, and he is a past President of the Greene County Estate Planning Council. In addition, he has been admitted as a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, which is an organization to which membership is by invitation only. He has also been named as a Missouri/Kansas Super Lawyer and was included in the 2007 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.

Mr. Owensby is also active in local Bar Association activities. He has served as an officer and director, as well as President of the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association, which is an association of more than 600 attorneys in the Springfield, Missouri, area. He has also served as President of the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Foundation.

Mr. Owensby is admitted to practice in all Missouri state courts, the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri, the United States Supreme Court and the United States Tax Court.
