About Jack

Jack L. Libert, a lifelong resident of Long Island is a practicing attorney who has specialized in the fields of real estate, land use planning, and zoning since 1975. A resident of the Town of Oyster Bay he has served with distinction as Chairman of Board of Zoning Appeals of that Town, having been a member of that Board since 1997. Mr. Libert is also a deputy village attorney for the Incorporated Village of Lynbrook.

Mr. Libert served as CEO and General Counsel of the Real Estate Division of Benjamin Development Co., a major developer of planned communities, special needs housing and health care facilities in the Metropolitan area. As General Counsel he supervised all legal affairs including real estate acquisitions and offerings, litigation, labor matters, regulatory issues and taxation. As CEO he oversaw virtually all aspects of new project selection, creation and development. During Mr. Libert's tenure with Benjamin, the Greens at Half Hollow, Glen Head Knolls, The Bluffs at Fox Hollow, Riverhead Knolls, the Knolls of Birmingham (Pennsylvania) and more than 1,500 units of affordable senior housing were developed.

Prior to going to work for the Benjamin organization Mr. Libert was a partner in the law firm of D'Amato, Forchelli, Libert, Schwartz & Mineo, Esqs.  He headed the Real Estate Conveyance and Finance department, and worked as well in the areas of administrative, zoning law, land use planning and related litigation. Mr. Libert was the elected Trustee (1987 to 1989) and Mayor (1989 to 1994) of the Incorporated Village of Woodsburgh.

From January of 1978 to March of 1984 Mr. Libert served as counsel to the Nassau County Board of Supervisors (which became the County Legislature.) As Counsel, he was the chief legal advisor to the legislative body of Nassau County and the liaison between the legislature, the County Executive, the Townships and the administrative arms of the County Government.

Mr. Libert graduated Hofstra University, Hempstead, New York, with a B.A. in Social Science in June of 1971, and a Juris Doctor in 1974. He was admitted to the New York State Bar on February 11, 1975 He is also admitted to the Circuit Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Federal District Courts for both the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.

Mr. Libert is a member of the ABA, New York State Bar Association and the Nassau County Bar Association. The Martindale-Hubbell bar directory has conferred upon Mr. Libert an AV rating (the highest rating) and lists Mr. Libert in its annual Bar Register of Preeminent Attorneys. In 2002 Mr. Libert was featured in a special edition of Long Island Business News entitled "Who's Who in Law on Long Island". He has appeared as a legal commentator on Cablevision News Channel Twelve and lectures on real estate and zoning matters for Lorman CLE Seminars.
