About James
James C. Banks attended Georgia Institute of Technology and graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Criminology in 1976, and Capital University Law School in 1979. He has 27 years experience in handling thousands of cases in both State and Federal court, including marital and family law cases, dissolution of marriage, paternity, child custody, child support, alimony, equitable distribution and dependency cases. He has handled over 30 First Degree Murder cases. He also has handled federal drug conspiracies, complex fraud and white collar crimes, robberies, burglaries, sex crimes, thefts and DUI. He is a former state prosecutor, and an instructor at Florida State University School of Criminology.
He has taught courses in criminology and psychology at Florida State University and delivered numerous lectures at law enforcement training academies. He served on the Florida Sentencing Commission for six (6) years after appointments by Governor Martinez and Governor Chiles. He is the author of ELCA Death Penalty Social Statement, and several chapters in the Florida Prosecution Manual (1982) and Florida Dissolution of Marriage Manual (1980's). In addition to his active marital and family practice, he handles Appeals (with over 85 written opinions), Wills, and Probate. He is a member of the Florida Bar, Georgia Bar, Tallahassee Bar Association, Jefferson County Bar Association, and the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
In his time away from the office he volunteers for Habitat For Humanity and Grace Lutheran Church. He enjoys snow skiing in the winter and traveling to New Hampshire during the summer. He has also run with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain.
