Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I work with a lot of Domestic Violence clients, and the past two years I have resolved many cases, helped many clients, drafted Consent Orders that gave them a new life, peace of mind, a safer environment, a happier countenance. A dedicated DV lawyer makes a positive difference in many lives, and I am very proud of the work I have done.
How did you build a successful practice?
It's very simple. dedicate your best efforts to every client. Keep legal fees modestly low, resolve the case in a manner where the client eagerly sends friends and family to your law firm.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Honesty, integrity, determination, selflessness, expertise, dedication.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge, or what we call "home cookin', is essential to achieve peak performance for your client. I do not accept cases outside of my jurisdiction for that very reason. I advise out-of-district prospects to seek the best possible representation in their own community. A lawyer who knows the local rules, the local judges, and the local prosecutors. It's not so much the "good old boy" system as much as it is the advantage of having familiarity with how a particular jurisdiction conducts its business. Knowledge is a key to success.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
My credentials, my estimation if you need legal representation, likelihood of a successful outcome.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
Basic information to complete a no-conflict list, and a summary of the circumstances that prompted your contact to a lawyer.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
Every client is important to me, every client deserves my best efforts, every client, no matter how big or small is their case, deserves my full attention. I make myself available nights and weekends to address critical matters, and changing circumstances. I am truly dedicated to my clients when they need me.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Changing my clients' circumstances for the better. Improving their lives, their opportunities, their relationships with their friends and families. Making them safer, giving them more certainty and purpose in their lives. Easing their difficult circumstances, finding solutions to difficult problems. Using the law to help people, who are in anxious circumstances, and who need an advocate in the legal system.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
History, sports, sailing, Emergency Medicine (I am a trained and experienced EMT-P).
Are you involved in your community?
Volunteer Paramedic for 13 years.
