Cases

GRANGER et al. v. HOLT

In order to collect on a judgment in Georgia following a foreclosure in Florida, the foreclosing party must secure a deficiency judgment. A final judgment of foreclosure by itself is not an appropriate judgment to domesticate for the purpose of collections in another state.

Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

Each year we help many families save their homes from foreclosure. In our accident and injury practice, we ensure that those who have been hurt by someone else's negligence recover what they are owed. Our estate planning and probate practice assists families as they carry out their loved one's last wishes.

How did you build a successful practice?

There are three keys to success: 1) work hard, 2) follow the rules, and 3) be kind. Using these three principals as a guide, we elevate our practice above all others.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

With so many to choose from, selecting a lawyer can seem like a daunting task. Look for attorneys with experience, a track record of success, and the necessary resources to make sure your case is handled with the utmost care.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

It is important to not only know the law but also the local rules. Navigating a court case can be difficult. Familiarity with the local clerks, judges, and judicial assistants can go a long way.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

We will analyze the case and make a determination as to whether you have a case and whether our firm is the right fit for your circumstances. We will never take a case unless we are confident that we can help you.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

Prepare a brief and concise explanation of the circumstances. Send any paperwork that you have by email in advance of the appointment. Have your case number handy if one has already been assigned.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

Unlike other attorneys, if we don't think our representation will benefit you, we will let you know so that you do not spend money on an attorney and end up disappointed. We are straightforward and honest, and our clients appreciate that.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Seeing how happy our clients are at the end of representation. We literally save families from being homeless. We help the injured recover, and we help grieving families feel relief.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I have an unusual hobby. I restore and collect pinball machines. You will find some of the restorations in our lobby. It is a hit with clients.

Are you involved in your community?

I am a past president of the Fayette County Bar Association and a former member of the Executive Council of the Young Lawyer Division of the State Bar of Georgia. I led the Legal Food Frenzy to help collect food for our local food banks for Fayette and Coweta Counties for many years and provide pro bono services to those in need.
