About J. David

Mr. Hammond is a former military prosecutor and defense lawyer with over a decade of experience fighting for service members and their families. He served nine years and two combat tours as an active duty US Army officer, then joined the Reserves and settled down in Syracuse to be near family.

In the Army, Mr. Hammond advised commanders and leaders in combat on the legal parameters of warfare. He honed his trial skills in the courtroom as a prosecutor, then defended hundreds of soldiers accused of serious criminal offenses on appeal.

Now representing people across Central New York charged with serious felonies, misdemeanors, DWIs, and traffic offenses, he puts the same level of commitment into his civilian law practice.

In addition to defending the rights of Central New Yorkers, Mr. Hammond continues to maintain a veteran-focused practice. He represents Soldiers on appeal before the military appellate courts and often takes on cases to fix injustices in service members’ military records.

Mr. Hammond obtained his B.A. at North Carolina State University, magna cum laude, and attended Syracuse University College of Law for his J.D., summa cum laude.
