James Scott Helfrich, Attorney

Jim graduated from Wheaton College with a B.A. in Biblical Studies and Ancient Languages. He remained at Wheaton an additional two years to complete a Masters Degree in Theological Studies.

Jim then moved to New York where he earned his J.D. at St. Johns University Law School in 1989. Jim was honored as a St. Thomas More Scholar and was a recipient of the American Jurisprudence Awards in Torts II, Trademarks & Copyrights. He served as an editor on the St. John's Law Review and authored "Limiting a Regulated Pass-on Exception to Illinois Brick" in 1988.

Upon graduation from law school, Jim spent three years in Manhattan as an associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett. He then moved to Colorado to work with Miles Gersh as an associate at Gersh & Danielson where he specialized in commercial and securities litigation.

After practicing law together for five years, Jim and Miles founded Gersh & Helfrich in 1997. While at Gersh & Helfrich, Jim has helped hundreds of clients obtain justice in cases involving securities fraud, breaches of contract and fiduciary duty, environmental violations, illegal business practices, Ponzi schemes and real estate disputes.

Jim is an AV-rated attorney by Martindale Hubbell, is a sought-after speaker for continuing legal education seminars, and has been selected by his peers as one of Colorado's "Super Lawyers."

In addition to his work at Gersh & Helfrich, Jim is a member of the Christian Legal Society where from 1999 to 2000 and in 2002 he served as President for the Denver chapter. He coordinates legal aid clinics for the poor at the Denver Rescue Mission and Salvation Army of Denver, and serves on the advisory board for a full-service office at Joshua Station known as the Justice and Mercy Legal Aid clinic.

Jim, his wife, and their two children live in Denver.
