About James
James S. Quincey grew up on a family farm in Trenton, Florida. He was active in his high school serving as local president for the Beta Club and State President of the Florida Beta Clubs. He was active in athletics, having been named All Conference in football and basketball and All State in Basketball. He also served as a State Vice President of the Florida Association of Future Farmers of America and served as a National Vice President of the Future Farmers of America representing 16 southern states. He graduated Salutatorian of his class in 1954. Upon graduation from high school, he was awarded a Florida Farm Bureau Scholarship and a Florida Banker's Association Scholastic and Leadership Scholarship to the University of Florida.
Mr. Quincey attended the University of Florida, receiving a B.S.A. from the College of Agriculture in 1959 and graduated from the College of Law, Juris Doctor, in 1963, with Honors. While in law school he was a member of the Order of the Coif, was elected to Phi Kappa Phi, and was a member of Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity and Alpha Gamma Rho social fraternity. He was a member and served as President of Florida Blue Key Leadership Fraternity. He was President of the Junior Class at the University of Florida. He was named to Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities and The University of Florida Hall of Fame.
Mr. Quincey has been active in his professional Bar Associations, being a member of The Florida Bar, The Eighth Judicial Circuit Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. He has been active in the Trial Lawyers Section of The Florida Bar, the Corporation and Business Law Section of The Florida Bar, and he was a member of the Board of Governors of the Young Lawyers Section of The Florida Bar. He has served as Director, Treasurer, and President of the Eighth Judicial Bar Association.
Mr. Quincey is a former member of the Federal Judicial Nominating Commission, U. S. District Court Northern District of Florida, and a former member of the Eighth Judicial Circuit Judicial Nominating Committee. He is a member of the Eighth Judicial Circuit Estate Planning Council and has held memberships in The Florida Academy of Trial Lawyers and The American Trial Lawyers Association. He is a past Chairman and a member of the Executive Committee of The Florida Law Network.
Mr. Quincey has been a member of the Board of Directors of the former Florida National Bank at Gainesville and the Florida National Bank of Florida. He also served as a member of the Advisory Board of First Union National Bank at Gainesville. He was one of the organizers and is the current Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Florida Citizens Bank.
Mr. Quincey has been active in community affairs having served as Director, Vice President, President, and Chairman of the Board of The Gainesville Rotary Club; a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of The Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce; and a member of The Council for Economic Outreach. He is a member of the University of Florida President's Council and a member of the University of Florida Alumni Association. He was active in the Jaycees, serving as past President, Chairman of the Board of Directors, First Vice President, Second Vice President and the State Director of the Gainesville Jaycees and serving as legal counsel for two years to The Florida Jaycees while serving on its Executive Committee.
Mr. Quincey is a member of the University of Florida Gator Boosters, Inc., Gainesville Quarterback Club, Gator Tipoff Club, Gainesville Golf and Country Club, Haile Plantation Golf and Country Club, and the Heritage Club. He is a former Elder, Deacon, and Trustee of Highlands Presbyterian Church and is now a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church.
Mr. Quincey served in the U. S. Army Reserves and also performed active duty. He received an Honorable Discharge.
Mr. Quincey was a Congressional Page in the U. S. House of Representatives for former U. S. Congressman Charles E. Bennett. He was a Special Aide to former U. S. Congressman D.R. (Billy) Matthews while in law school. Mr. Quincey also served as the former Special Counsel to Florida Governor Bob Graham.
Mr. Quincey is the owner of several commercial real estate properties and a partner in several real estate developments. He is Secretary and member of the Board of Directors of JHK Ranch, Inc., a family corporation.
Mr. Quincey has practiced with the same law firm since his graduation from law school in 1963. He has participated in significant complex litigation involving personal injury claims, commercial contract disputes, and class action litigation. He has also been involved in forming corporations, limited partnerships, limited liability companies, joint ventures, and other business entities for large developments. He has extensive experience in commercial transactions, both representing lending institutions as well as borrowers. His practice areas now include business law and commercial litigation. He is also a State Certified Circuit Court Civil Mediator.
