Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I'm proud to help parents protect their children. One case I am proud of is helping a mother protect her daughter from a severely alcoholic father. He couldn't remain sober for more than 6 months and would be drunk taking care of her or wouldn't show up for visits. In an effort to protect the girl, I went to court for several hearings and a trial and got a reduction in custody and visitation.
How did you build a successful practice?
I built a successful practice by being attentive to my client's needs. I'm a good listener, which is hard in a profession full of people who are in love with the sound of their own voice. I'm a strong advocate and achieve settlements that work. When settlement isn't possible, I advocate vigorously for my client's case in court.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should look for someone with integrity. If you can't trust that person, you can't trust they will serve you adequately. You should also look for transparency - does that person explains the case well, keep you up to date on what is happening and keep you educated before important decisions need to be made?
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Over the years, I have become finely tuned to the local rules and procedures in the counties which I work. You need to know the rules in order to win.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
I don't provide free phone consultations. I can do a paid phone consultation if someone is not available to do an in person meeting.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
I don't provide free phone consultations. If someone wants me to review any paperwork, I ask them to email me the forms. I will review motions, financial statements, etc. as part of a consultation.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I have exceptional credentials. I have two degrees from Harvard and attended a top 20 law school. I received training in public speaking, won awards for my writing and have litigated for 11 years. My colleagues and clients stand by my abilities.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
I used to do corporate law. I never met my clients and worked for the ""evil empire."" Now I get to work with everyday people fighting for the things that matter most - their children and assets, for example.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I've taken an interest in art. I'm currently painting in acrylics and drawing with a variety of media. It teases my brain in different ways than the law.
Are you involved in your community?
I mentor attorneys and volunteers for the Bay View Hunter's Point Legal Clinic, helping people get quality access to legal services in the community.
