Dealing with the Aftermath: Seven Mistakes to Avoid Following a Florida Auto Accident
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
We get personally invested in our clients. One case that has touched my heart involved a gentleman who was involved in a devastating vehicle accident. During the case we became very close with our client, his family and his friends. He is a remarkable person. We ended up settling his case for a significant amount of money. The money was used to purchase a home, retrofit the home with therapy equipment, and provide him around the clock care. In that case, I truly felt like I made a difference in his life.
How did you build a successful practice?
I have been in practice since 1995. My wife and I have built our practice on building relationships with our clients and our community. As a result most of our cases come from past clients referring their friends and family as well as people that Debi and I have built relationships with over the years. Through community service, volunteering at our synagogue an d being involved with others, we have tried to earn the trust of others.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
I believe the first thing clients should look for in a law firm is , who will handle my case. Who is the lawyer? In a lot of cases, the lawyer you see on line, is not the lawyer who you will need to count on to fight for you. At our firm, all cases are handled by either Debi or Jason Chalik. You may also want to know if the lawyer will personally take your case to court if it cannot settle. We handle all of our own trials, and the insurance companies know it.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
The free phone consultation is a good first opportunity to see if there is a match between client and lawyer. Sometimes, a lawyer may not be comfortable handling a certain case, and maybe the client does not feel the trust necessary to have a lawyer represent them. Trust is vital in the attorney/client relationship and the initial free consultation is a good place to see if there I a good fit for both the client and the lawyer.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is helping others. People call me and say, I have never been injured before, or I have never hired a lawyer before. For me being able to answer all of the questions and guide our clients through the process is very rewarding. In addition, seeing my clients regain their lives and be compensated for their injuries is very rewarding.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
In addition to law, my family comes first with me. I work with my wife and we have three children who I cannot get enough of. I love sports and played college tennis. I am also very involved in politics and actually ran for city council in my hometown.
Are you involved in your community?
I think being involved in the community is very important. I enjoy volunteering and giving back to the community that has been so good to me. I have been President of my synagogue. I am on the board of Debbie's Dream: Curing Stomach Cancer organization. I have been on the board of my chamber of commerce and my homeowners association.
