About Jennifer
Ms. Finn is a partner in the Trust and Estates Department at Ivins, Phillips & Barker, where she advises clients on a wide range of estate and gift tax planning matters and works on the settlement of large, complex estates. She prepares multi-faceted, integrated estate plans for her clients that incorporate their lifetime gift strategies. Most often these plans are implemented through the drafting of a variety of types of trusts and wills, family investment entities, grantor retained annuity trusts and charitable trusts. Ms. Finn also prepares financial powers of attorney and advance medical directives.
Ms. Finn regularly establishes multi-generation dynasty trusts, forms family limited liability companies, creates strategies involving grantor retained annuity trusts, advises clients on land conservation strategies, assists in the development of estate tax liquidity plans, drafts and negotiates premarital agreements, provides post-mortem tax planning, administers estates and represents clients before the IRS.
Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Finn was an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Dewey Ballantine, LLP where she focused on a broad range of federal income tax issues with a particular emphasis on the federal income taxation of large corporate transactions. With this background, Ms. Finn is uniquely qualified to assist clients in selling and restructuring closely-held businesses in a tax efficient manner.
Ms. Finn received her J.D., magna cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center in 1999, where she was an Olin Fellow, member of the Georgetown University Law Review, named to the Order of the Coif and named to the Dean's List every semester. She received an M.A. in Economics from Georgetown University in 1993 and a B.A. in Economics, cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from University of California at Irvine in 1991. Ms. Finn was admitted to the California Bar in 1999 and to the District of Columbia Bar in 2000.
