About Jerry
Meyers approaches each medical negligence case as a scientist trying to solve a puzzle. Having worked in hospitals for nearly a decade as a corpsman and then as a respiratory therapist, Meyers saw many patients suffer needless injury. He wanted to help individuals who had been harmed by the medical system. Although he loved medicine, Meyers became convinced he would be more effective bringing about improvements in the way medicine is practiced from the outside as a lawyer, than from the inside as a doctor. His goal, to make a difference in the way medicine is practiced.
Meyers’ background has afforded him the opportunity to advocate for many severely injured victims of medical negligence; some even before he was a lawyer. He is deeply committed to his work, his clients, and the betterment of the medical and legal professions.
Meyers is fond of saying, “Nothing would make me happier than to be put out of business – not by the legislature, but by doctors and health care providers being more careful.” Despite this wish, medical errors, some with grievous consequences, continue to be made. Meyers gets satisfaction from helping victims overcome the challenges they’ve been confronted with because of entirely avoidable catastrophes.
A native of Pennsylvania, Jerry Meyers was born in McKeesport and grew up in Duquesne. He served the US Navy and then the Marines as a hospital corpsman, where he received his first medical training and hospital experience. He later worked as a respiratory therapist in teaching hospitals while attending college and law school. Meyers received his B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh and his J.D. (cum laude) from the University of Miami.’
Jerry Meyers is a member of the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association, where he’s served on the Board of Governors (1987-1991), (2001 to present); The Medical Malpractice Committee, and as Western Chapter President (1990). He is a member of the Leaders Forum of the American Association for Justice and the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County (by invitation to trial lawyers of demonstrated competence), and has been recognized in Pennsylvania “Super Lawyers”. Meyers has consistently received an AV rating (the highest mark for ability and professionalism) from his peers in the annual Martindale Hubbell Directory of American Lawyers. He has been a visiting lecturer at various medical schools and teaching hospitals. He is regularly called upon to teach at continuing legal education seminars on various aspects of medical malpractice.
Married for over 40 years, Jerry’s interests are spending time with his family, their dogs and horses, and competing in equestrian events. Additionally, Jerry is involved in various local and national charities and philanthropic pursuits.
