Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I had a parent come to me who had visitation rights, but was not getting visitation. The child at issue had been subjected to multiple moves by the custodial parent, poor hygiene, school performance suffering, and other miserable issues at home. I was able to secure Primary Physical Custody for this parent, so that the child's best interests truly could be met. This sort of result is typical at my law firm. We approach our cases with realistic expectations, but with every effort to attain extraordinary results.
How did you build a successful practice?
There is no substitute for a job well done, prompt communication, and diligence. We offer our clients very personalized attention and frequently, instantaneous communication. In the end, it is plain hard work and honesty with our clients that drives our success.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
One has to be able to trust their lawyer implicitly. In essence, this means that when your head hits the pillow at night, you know your attorney is doing his or her utmost for you and your case. Trust is key. If you have reservations, there is a good reason, and your own intuition should never be overlooked. You should expect your phone calls to be returned promptly, and you should look for an attorney who is brutally honest about having realistic expectations. You should run from any attorney who guarantees anything other than that they will work their hardest for you. You should seek an attorney in good standing with their State Bar, and one who cares enough to carry malpractice insurance. Appellate experience is a major plus, because you know that this attorney has his or her duty to protect the record always in consideration.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
A thorough knowledge of the local district court rules is vital, as there are procedures and deadlines that drive the proceedings, especially in Federal Courts.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
Essentially the very same information as an in-person interview; however, it is much more effective to have my clients and prospective clients sitting across from me. Our firm uses dual monitors, so when we pull up a case or a document, our clients can view in real time what we are seeing.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
This depends upon the situation. If a case has been established, I need to know procedurally where we are in that process. Many cases our firm can view the pleadings and docketing online, which can be of immense benefit during a phone consultation . A specific chronological history of relevant social and economic events in our client's relationship is fundamental to getting the most out of our call. Time only moves in one direction; it is amazing how a story unfolds when one follows events in chronological order. Other information needed includes, names, birthdates, addresses, income information, work hours, whether there has been any domestic violence, all these factors are paramount.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I have been practicing close to 15 years, and my practice is limited to family law. I have been though a contested divorce, and have been though the process in terms of fighting for custody. My middle child is a high-functioning Autistic person who I have had to fight for in the academic setting at well. My background in Psychology and Sociology and REAL LIFE EXPERIENCES have shaped me into a tenacious fighter for justice. I think that immediately, most clients feel at ease and confident when they sit down across from me and tell me their story. I am a mother, and have children also who are grown. I have experienced personally many of the challenges my clients face, always keeping in mind how it is that they can be empowered today. In short, I can offer a solid knowledge base, both personal and academic, and the passion to apply it. I think that having sat on the other side of the bench has given me a heart and loyalty unparalleled to most other attorneys, and the drive necessary to present their cases whole-heartedly.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Seeing my clients sigh a breath of relief when they realize that they do NOT have to face this process alone, and that there is someone out there who truly cares. This sort of dynamic spills over into truly successful outcomes! There just isn't anything more rewarding than that.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I am a dog person and own three precious souls who enrich my life daily. They are very much a part of our family. I have a husband who is a paralegal, author, and coffee expert, and four children. I am familiar with Autism and the special challenges people face when their lives are touched by this condition. I have completed many foot races and would love to compete in another half marathon.
Are you involved in your community?
Yes, however; it is on much more of a local level. I connect with those around me daily, and have often found myself representing friends and people I have met at the store or other community functions. We attend outdoor theater and church. We donate to charitable causes also.
