About Jay

Jay Parker has been a principal partner with Marks and Lear PLC for more than ten years. Through this time, Jay has focused his practice on representing the victims of wrongful injury or death in trials, including clients injured in auto, truck, maritime, industrial and catastrophic injury accidents.

Jay attended Louisiana State University and graduated in 1979, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. He then went on to Louisiana State University Law School and was awarded a Juris Doctorate degree in 1986. During law school, and as a result of a yearlong competition, Jay was awarded a position on the LSU Law Center Moot Court Board in recognition of his exemplary litigation skill. Since then, Jay has served as a judge at the LSU Law Center Moot Court Competitions.

Following law school, Jay accepted a clerkship with the Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Upon completion of his clerkship, Jay entered the private practice of law by accepting a position with Marks and Lear PLC. While with the firm, Jay has earned a BV® Distinguished™ Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell® for his legal ability and ethical standards.

In recognition of his experience and effectiveness, Jay has been appointed by the courts to serve on the plaintiff attorney steering committees of a number of class action cases involving industrial plant explosions and toxic chemical releases occurring in the industrial corridor along the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge to New Orleans.

From the outset, Jay’s practice has been exclusively a trial practice representing the victims of wrongful injury or death. His notable trial successes are among those reported in Case Results. Employing thorough preparedness and creativity, Jay has also demonstrated an ability to resolve tough cases using mediation as an alternative dispute technique, which dramatically reduces the time and expense for the conclusion of cases. In one recent case he was able to secure for his die-hard LSU football client not only an early and sizeable settlement, but also the defense counsel’s University of Georgia necktie, which he wore to the settlement mediation!

At Marks and Lear PLC, all cases are handled on a percentage fee (contingency) basis and we advance all costs and expenses.
