Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I represented sole proprietor builder in case against 2 well-to-do homeowners who were trying to beat him out of his contractually owed money. 3.5 day jury trial. Jury gave what I asked for to the penny ("and 41 cents"). The put my client out of business, ruined his credit but at least I was able to get him something back for all his hard work.
How did you build a successful practice?
Preparation, good trial skills, word of mouth, and referrals from other attorneys.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should look for someone knowledgeable, a down to earth attorney with good communication skills, who listens to their stories and talks to them, not at them.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is extremely important. For 27 years, I've served Warren, Frederick, Shenandoah and Clarke counties.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I enjoy any kind of fishing, especially fly, canoeing, kayaking, and scuba. I used to play tennis and ski before my knee injury (I can probably still ski with proper brace). I am former President of Warren County Bar, Inc. and former President, Officer, and Director of Shenandoah County Literacy Volunteers. Additionally, I am an Elder in the Presbyterian church.
