Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I have had two recent huge victories in DUI cases: Representing a client who had a head-on collision with two automobiles and had a BAC greater than .3. I creatively strategized to have her receive the minimum license loss, no probation, and was able to secure a hardship license for her so that she could not drive for only one day. Noting all of the difficulties with the State's DUI charge against a client who was involved in a single car accident and had a BAC greater than .15, I was able to have his charge amended to a reckless operation of a motor vehicle with no loss of license. My best two recent Divorce victories were: Uncovering $500,000 in complicated property ownership assets that a husband had hidden from his wife Successfully writing and then arguing a legal memorandum wherein I convinced the judge that my client deserved 50% of the $100,000 appreciation in value of the husband's pre-martial house. In a Juvenile Frist Degree Child Molestation case, I was able to negotiate a less-than-jail with no sexual offender registration felony assault result
How did you build a successful practice?
I continue to build my successful practice by arriving at work while others are still sleeping, stay current on new developments in the law, and harness my competitive nature to find a way to win where others would settle for a less-than-stellar result for their clients.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should look for a lawyer who will do the work necessary to be the best-prepared person in the courtroom. Clients should look for an attorney who is organized, a confident oral advocate, and an excellent writer.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is a key component to a successful outcome. This knowledge may come in the form of knowing how different judges and prosecutors feel about aspects of cases that will benefit a lawyer's clients. It may also come in the form of knowing a recent development in the statue or the case law that will benefit a lawyer's client. That is why Lawyer's Weekly calls upon me to comment on recent cases. The most recent time I was quoted in Lawyer's Weekly was in the Rhode Island and Massachusetts editions on 04 December 2020 regarding United States v. Ackerly.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
In a free phone consultation, I can discuss with a client what a range of reasonably likely results might be given key facts in his or her case. I can provide the manner in which I plan to achieve the best possible result. I can also explain the process from the beginning to the conclusion of his or her case.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
The best information for me to have for a free phone consultation is a PDF emailed to me in advance with three pages of information. This may be a criminal complaint, a complaint for divorce, or a written factual summary. If this is not possible, having the key facts in a case is essential for a meaningful discussion.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
What differentiates me from other lawyers in the community is that I am the most competitive person I know. I find a way to win. I receive fulfillment by winning cases and achieving results that other attorneys are not able to achieve.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The most rewarding aspect of my career is to be able to get a life-changing result for a client, especially, but not necessarily, for a client who deserves that result.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
In addition to law, my main interest is my young family. Second to that, I love poker. When I was younger, I was a professional poker player traveling the world playing poker and spending my winters battling it out with other professionals and amateurs in Las Vegas. I've successfully battled against Manny Pacquiao, James Woods, Sammy Farha, and Dan Blizerian.
Are you involved in your community?
I work six days a week and spend every hour of the seventh day with my family. As a result of my devotion to my career and my family, I am not active in my community.
