About Joseph
Joseph P. Asselta, Esq. is one of the founding members of the firm and represents clients in all segments of the construction industry including general contractors, construction managers, owners, developers, trade contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, equipment rental companies and sureties (on both public and private projects). He has prosecuted and defended numerous small and multi-million dollar claims relating to non-payment, extra work, delays, changed conditions, defective work, defaults, terminations, mechanic's liens, prevailing wages, insurance coverage and performance and payment bonds. His practice also includes construction contract review, drafting and negotiation, as well as dispute avoidance and resolution. Paying particular attention to the client's budget and the amount in controversy, he devises the most cost-effective strategy to obtain the maximum results in the shortest possible time. Mr. Asselta also provides his clients with counseling and representation in connection with their corporate, commercial and real estate needs.
As his clients can attest, Mr. Asselta prides himself on the quick response he provides to his clients' needs or questions.
A member of the American Bar Association's Construction Law Forum and Fidelity and Surety Law Committee of the Tort and Insurance Practice Section, Mr. Asselta is active in a number of construction and surety industry associations. He was the Chair of the Bar Association of Nassau County, Construction Law Committee from 2001-2003. Mr. Asselta has also authored numerous articles on current construction and surety-related topics for publication, including "Responding to the Filing of a Mechanic's Lien" which appeared in the Nassau Lawyer, February 2002.
Mr. Asselta graduated cum laude from Georgetown University and received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from St. John's University School of Law. He was formerly a senior litigation associate at a New York construction law firm.
In his spare time, Mr. Asselta enjoys playing tennis and golf, sailing and spending time with his wife and three children. Mr. Asselta is also active in the community. In addition to giving to various charities, he serves as co-president on the Board of Directors of Landmark on Main Street, Inc. (a not-for-profit cultural and civic organization in Port Washington, New York), is a member of the New Salem Civic Association's Historic District Committee and has been a sponsor of the Long Island Children's Museum and served as Chair of one of the Museum's Leadership Committees.
