About Joseph
Joseph P. Brent received his BA in History with Honors from Macalester College (St. Paul, MN) in 1983 and graduated from the IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law (Chicago, IL) with his JD in 1988. Brent first made a name for himself with the Cook County State's Attorney's Criminal Division, where he achieved a remarkable record of trial success, including nearly 500 bench trials and numerous jury trials in a five year period. His success led him to the highest levels in the Illinois justice system, including arguing two cases before the Illinois Supreme Court, one of which was a death penalty case.
Brent followed his success at the Cook County prosecutor's office by becoming a named partner at the Chicago-based firm of Fumagali, Tecson, Hyman & Brent, Ltd. He focused his trial practice on personal injury and class action cases before relocating to the West Coast in 2000. Brent joined a leading boutique trial firm in San Francisco, and in 2006 left and started his own practice. In 2009 he joined forces with David Fiol.
