Joe graduated from St. John's University School of Law, Class of 1983 receiving the prestigious Timothy J. Meehan Award in Advanced Real Estate. He received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
Joe was formerly “of-counsel” to Koerner, Silberberg & Weiner, LLP. Prior to that, he was a member of Lacher & Fox, a general practice firm. He gained valuable experience in Corporate Bankruptcies, Creditor Rights, and Creditors’ Committee Counsel as an associate with Fink Weinberger P.C.
Throughout his career, Joe has had a reputation for his personable, caring and intelligent way of bringing his clients through the most tense times in their lives. Joe spent several years working in government. He spent two years working for the New York State Assembly in Albany with the Codes Committee and as counsel to the Consumer Affairs Committee. He worked as the Legislative Attorney for the New York City Office for Economic Development, advocating on behalf of business interests in New York City. He then served as the Director of Real Estate for the NYC Department of Ports and Trade where he was responsible for overseeing the City’s waterfront properties, including some of New York City’s landmark waterfront facilities.
He has also been active in improving his community. He co-founded IMPACT, a not-for-profit corporation in New York City which provided programs and assistance to homeless children and the families of battered women.
He is currently serving as a volunteer with the Queens Volunteer Lawyers Network assisting victims of predatory lending practices. He has some insightful experiences which he is always eager to share.
He is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Queens County Bar Association, and the New York Criminal and Civil Courts Bar Association.
He is also a member of Community Board No. 6, in Queens County.
Joe has lectured before several bar associations and other forums on debtor rights, particularly as they interact with support and family law issues. He also authored a Special State Assembly Report on the Container Deposit Law and related anti-trust issues.
