About Julie
Julie Curran Gerock has been a family law attorney for more than ten years, representing her clients in complex cases, including equitable distribution, spousal support, child support, child custody, visitation, relocation as well as international family law cases. She is licensed to practice law in Virginia, the District of Columbia and North Carolina.
Ms. Gerock began her law career in Charlotte, North Carolina, although she is originally from North Reading, Massachusetts. As a young lawyer with no prior family law experience, she worked tirelessly and diligently to quickly learn the complexities of this diverse and complicated area of the law. However, she quickly learned that the practice of family law not only requires mastery of the law, but also the building of trust, confidence and relationships with her clients. Ms. Gerock also believes that the practice of family law includes educating her clients and providing them with various options and alternatives to litigation, such as mediation, arbitration, and Collaborative Law which are resolution methods designed to promote respect, dignity and civility, even in the most difficult and stressful time in a person's life. However, when settlement is not possible, Ms. Gerock understands the importance of and the role that litigation has in family law situations and she has the litigation and trial experience necessary to represent a client through all stages of the process, whether through settlement or trial.
In 2003, when Ms. Gerock relocated to Northern Virginia, her experience, dedication and compassion quickly distinguished Ms. Gerock from many other family law attorneys, gaining her the respect of judges, opposing counsel and her clients. Before joining The Maddox Law Firm, P.C., Ms. Gerock practiced law with the firm of Ain & Bank, P.C. in Washington, D.C. and was named by The Washingtonian as one of Washington's Best Divorce Lawyers in 2008. She has practiced in Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, Loudoun, and Fauquier Counties. She also practices in the District of Columbia and maintains active licensing in North Carolina.
Ms. Gerock is actively involved in local and state bar activities and has served on a number of committees, including the Board of the Young Lawyers Section of the Fairfax Bar Association, the Judicial Screening Committee of the Fairfax Bar Association, the Fairfax Circuit Court Committee, and the Fairfax Circuit Court Domestic Relations Sub-Committee. Ms. Gerock also believes it is important to give back to the local community and has therefore volunteered as a pro bono custody mediation attorney, she speaks regularly to at-risk youth through the Devonshire Project, and she has served as an attorney facilitator for the District of Columbia Superior Court. She is also a scout leader for her daughter's Daisies troop with the Girl Scouts. When Ms. Gerock and her husband lived in North Carolina, Ms. Gerock worked as a family readiness volunteer during Operation Enduring Freedom for her husband's unit, assisting the families of military spouses who were being deployed.
Ms. Gerock is married to her Air Force husband of more than ten years. They reside in Fairfax County with their young school aged daughter, their Newfoundland dog and three cats. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, dancing, and enjoying outdoor activities. She also ran in the Army 10 miler and hopes to continue running in other races.
