About Julie
Julie Oktanyan is the principal and founder of Julie O Law, APC.
With over 20 years’ combined legal experience in Workers’ Compensation law and Personal Injury matters, Julie started her own independent firm in January 2022 dedicated to helping traumatically injured workers.
At her previous firm, Oktanyan Der-Grigorian Law Group, Julie served as the Managing Partner for 10 consecutive years since opening its doors in May 2011. With Julie’s contribution and zealous representation at the firm, ODG Law Group secured over $30 million in settlements for its clients in 10 years.
Prior to that, Julie practiced as a civil defense attorney for two prestigious law firms in Downtown, Los Angeles and Woodland Hills. Her legal experience at these firms encompassed defending insurance companies in serious and high exposure matters ranging from product liability, premises liability, construction defect, and automobile and truck accidents.

MAKING AN IMPACT EVEN IN THE EARLY YEARS
Prior to defense work and private practice, Julie served as a summer clerk for the Law Offices of Johnnie L. Cochran, Jr. in their civil rights department working side by side with extraordinary attorneys in the representation of severely injured clients in police brutality matters. Prior to that, she completed an internship at the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office assisting attorneys in public entity premises liability cases.
Julie earned her Juris Doctor from Southwestern Law School, in Los Angeles, in May of 2002, claiming “Exceptional Achievement Awards” in Torts Law, Products Liability, and Intellectual Property. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from UCLA in June of 1998. She is fluent in Armenian.
Julie was selected as a Super Lawyer in 2020. She has also been recognized as a Top-Rated Attorney and Best of the Best in the field of Workers’ Compensation Law. She is a community activist and serves on the Board of a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization called “Heal Within Kids” dedicated to supporting motherless children.

$325,000 Travel Advisor V. Local Travel Agency Female travel advisor in her 50’s sustained a mild heart attack after work hours due to ongoing stressors at work and overwhelming repetitive job duties. Employer denied the claim for a heart attack as work-related and the insurance carrier maintained its denial until settlement reached. $250,000 Mobile Crane Operator V. Construction Company Male crane worker in his 40’s suffered debilitating injuries to multiple body parts, including his neck, back, knees and lower extremities. His injuries were the result of a cumulative trauma caused by his repetitive job duties involving lifting and moving heavy materials around a construction site requiring him to be highly skilled in driving and physically maintaining heavy machinery. $210,000 Dishwasher V. Restaurant Undocumented male dishwasher in his 40’s twisted his ankle on mat while washing dishes. In the course of the claim it was discovered that he has uncontrolled diabetes, ultimately leading to amputation of his sprained foot below the knee. Employer denied the incident took place at work. Insurance carriers denied causation for the secondary compensable injury resulting in amputation. QME in internal medicine determined 90% apportionable to the uncontrollable diabetes. Case resolved in settlement a few days prior to setting for trial on the issue of AOE/COE. $200,000 Ultrasound Tech V. Hospital Facility An ultrasound technician in her 30’s suffered orthopedic injuries to multiple body parts (including her shoulders, arms, neck, back and lower extremities) due to her stressful and overbearing job conditions as a medical tech. Her job duties included repetitive physical movement in maintaining ultrasound equipment, performing ultrasounds on patients all day, day after day, and sterilizing the room in which the procedures take place. $200,000 Chauffeur V. Transportation Service Male driver in his 40’s sustained orthopedic injuries to several body parts including his neck, back, shoulders, arms, wrists and hands due to repetitive job duties without appropriate rest breaks for relief from pressures of job. Job duties included continuous driving, fetching clients from one location to the next, and loading and unloading heavy personal belongings. $170,000 HVAC Technician V. Heating & Air Conditioning Company Male technician in his 30’s sustained a specific injury to his arm, wrist, back, leg and knee after tripping and falling while walking on a mezzanine of a commercial building at his job site. Applicant landed on his feet, lost his balance and fell backwards, fracturing his arm and knee. Case was accepted, full benefits paid in medical care, TTD & PD, and qualified for Supplemental Job Displacement Voucher at time of settlement. $160,000 Social Service Supervisor V. Healthcare Facility Female social services assignee in her 50’s suffered a cumulative trauma injury to her neck, upper extremities, left hand, back and left leg and ankle after working for her employer for over 11 years in the same job position. Her job duties included repetitive data entry, charting, phone use, filing, prolonged standing, sitting and walking evaluating patients and their needs. Case partially accepted to orthopedic injuries, denied as to psychological and internal complaints. $110,000 Book Keeper V. Store Female office clerk in her 30’s tripped and fell at the school office during work hours over a hard wire taped onto the floor. Her claim included grievances for orthopedic injuries, as well as neurological complaints, such as headaches. Case resolved in settlement with a future medical care buy-out and Voucher to retrain in a different job compatible with her permanent work restrictions. $105,000 Sales Representative V. Employer Female full charge bookkeeper in her 50’s submitted a claim for cumulative trauma injuries to her neck, back, upper extremities, lower extremities, stress, anxiety and gastrointestinal issues. Insurance carrier denied the claim in its entirety. After Qualified Medical Evaluations in the specialties of Neurology, Psychology, and Orthopedics, settlement was reached in lieu of proceeding to trial on the issue of AOE/COE. $95,000 Truck Driver V. Food Distribution Company Male Sales Agent in his 50’s sustained orthopedic injuries in a motor vehicle accident in the course and scope of driving for work. Due to initiating a claim for workers’ compensation benefits months after the accident had taken place, the insurance carrier denied the claim despite medical evidence of the injuries and treatment with private doctors since the injury date.
