Kevin M. Cecil is a lifelong Sacramento resident with a lifelong commitment to serving the community. Mr. Cecil graduated from California State University, Chico, and received his law degree from the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento. With experience in a variety of legal areas and settings, including criminal defense, personal injury, family law, and civil litigation, Mr. Cecil chose to concentrate on family law. Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I recently handled a case whereby a father, my client, was desirous to relocate with their 12-year-old son to Australia. There were no final custody orders in place, so the pendulum could have swung either way. In the end, through effective preparation and advocacy, the court agreed with our position and permitted the relocation to move forward.
How did you build a successful practice?
I treat people like people, not like numbers. It is not important to simply show care for clients and their situations, but to actually CARE. Be kind and respectful to opposing parties, opposing counsel, court staff, and judges, and good things are bound to happen.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Honesty, integrity, fairness, expertise, empathy/sympathy, and a heartbeat.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is very important in my area of practice since the culture and processes from one family court to another, from one county to another, can vary quite considerably. Add in the fact that all counties have local rules, it is vitally important to be up to date on all substantive and procedural aspects from one county to the ext.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
I provide reduced-rate consultations, and the information provided typically depends on the specific case and the scope of services sought. Ultimately, my goal is to evaluate the case, and then determine and explain to the potential client what I believe to be the most advantageous way to proceed in order to meet their goals.

I have been involved in the greater Sacramento area legal community for virtually my entire life, I am a hard worker, and I genuinely care about our clients and the outcomes of their cases.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Helping others in their greatest times of need.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I enjoy my bulldog Charlie, basketball, baseball, football (fantasy included), golf, the great outdoors, leisure reading, exercising on my Peloton, and live music!

Extremely so....however, the ongoing pandemic has made it somewhat more difficult to be as open and visible in public
