About Kevin
I have been practicing law since my admission to the Massachusetts Bar in 1979.
I began my career as an attorney for the Massachusetts State Treasurers Office where I rose to the level as General Counsel to the State Treasurer in 1981. In 1982 I joined the staff of the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office as an Assistant District Attorney prosecuting criminal cases, from drunk driving to major drug offenses to murder.
I began my general private practice in 1986. My practice has evolved through the entire Massachusetts Court System from Clerk Magistrate Hearings in District Court to the Supreme Judicial Court. My practice ranges in a number of legal areas including criminal law, matrimonial / family law, real estate, business law, personal injury, litigation and guardianship.
In the past I represented a father of two young children in his effort to gain custody from their neglectful mother. We prevailed at trial and in the Massachusetts Appeal Court. See Kelly v. Kelly. 2000 W.L. 1477107 .
My practice involves a variety of legal areas and I keep current by regularly attending continuing legal education programs in each practice area. The common thread in my practice is my clients immediate or potential need for a lawyer ready willing and able to appear in Court before a Judge to zealously represent their case. Despite this, the vast majority of my cases, like all attorneys, result in a pre-trial settlement which has allowed me to develop my negotiations skills.
My representation of clients is zealous and personal. My primary source of clients is prior client referrals.
On a more personal level, I am married and the father of a young boy. I serve as Chairman on the City of Somerville Massachusetts Human Rights Commission and I also serve as Clerk Secretary on the Board of the Lenny Fund Foundation.
Criminal Law
I have been trying and negotiating criminal cases, including juvenile cases, since 1982 when I was appointed to serve as an Assistant District Attorney In Middlesex County Massachusetts. My years a prosecutor gave me a unique prospective, access and insight into the Commonwealth's approach to criminal cases.
I know and work daily within local court systems, dealing directly with the personal therein. The Counties I have worked in include extensive experience in Middlesex, Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk Counties and experience in Barnstable and Worcester Counties. I have represented clients in hundreds of OUI / drunk driving matters from simple to complex including those involving deaths, (motor vehicle homicides). I have consistently remained active in representing clients in minor motor vehicle and traffic ticket cases in District Court while maintaining an active criminal trial and plea negotiation practice at every level.
We keep abreast of the current changes in the law by subscribing to Lawyers Weekly, the Internet services providing daily updates, and attending continuing legal education courses.
