Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
Two recent matters stand out. First, I was appointed Co-Lead Counsel in the Singulair multi-county litigation, giving me the opportunity to help lead complex litigation on behalf of individuals alleging serious injuries associated with the medication.
In a very different case, I represented an elderly man who suffered severe burn injuries when a space heater exploded. I helped him navigate a difficult insurance claim and ultimately obtain a fair settlement from his insurance company. That case was especially meaningful because my client had experienced a devastating injury and needed an advocate who could take on the insurance company and help him secure the compensation he deserved.
How did you build a successful practice?
I built my practice by combining nearly 20 years of litigation experience with a willingness to take a different path. I spent 13 years defending corporations in complex cases before changing sides and representing plaintiffs. That experience taught me how sophisticated defendants and insurance companies evaluate and defend claims.
When I founded Beck Law Center in 2020, I focused on using that knowledge to help individuals. I have built the firm through strong client relationships, referrals from other lawyers, careful case selection, and a commitment to doing the work each case requires. My goal has never been to have the most cases—it is to take meaningful cases where experienced, determined advocacy can make a difference.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should look for a lawyer with the experience to handle their particular type of case, but also someone they trust. A good lawyer should listen, communicate clearly, be candid about both the strengths and challenges of a case, and be willing to take on difficult issues.
In serious injury and products liability cases, I also believe preparation matters tremendously. Clients should ask whether the lawyer has experience with complex evidence, experts, depositions, and well-funded defendants. Most importantly, choose a lawyer who sees you as a person rather than simply another case and who is genuinely committed to advocating for you.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
During a free phone consultation, I can listen to what happened, learn about your injuries, and discuss whether your situation may involve a potential legal claim. I can explain the types of issues I would investigate, what evidence should be preserved, applicable deadlines, and what the legal process may look like. If I believe the case requires additional investigation, I can explain the next steps. My goal is to give you a straightforward assessment and help you understand your options, even if we ultimately determine that my firm is not the right fit for your case.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
What differentiates me is the breadth of experience I bring to representing plaintiffs. I spent 13 years at major law firms defending corporations in complex litigation before changing sides. I understand how defendants and insurance companies evaluate cases, develop defenses, work with experts, and challenge plaintiffs’ claims because I have been on that side of the table.
I now use that experience exclusively to represent individuals. As the owner of my own firm, I am also able to be selective about the cases I accept and provide clients with personal attention. I combine large-firm litigation experience with the accessibility and individualized representation of a smaller practice.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
Outside of law, I am an avid student of American and British history, with a particular interest in World War II. I enjoy studying the people, events, and decisions that shaped that period and their lasting impact on the world. I am also learning to speak Italian, which has been both challenging and rewarding. History and language give me an opportunity to keep learning and exploring subjects far removed from my day-to-day legal practice.
Are you involved in your community?
es. Community service is important to me. I founded Stop Elder Abuse Ohio, an organization focused on helping protect older adults from abuse, neglect, and exploitation and connecting them with resources and support.
I also provide pro bono legal assistance with name changes for LGBTQ+ individuals who do not identify with the gender they were assigned at birth. I believe lawyers have an opportunity to use their skills not only for their clients, but also to make legal services more accessible to people in their communities who need them.
