Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

Representing people who are injured is very rewarding. Giving a voice to the voiceless is a priceless gift that I cannot diminish. Covid closed the doors to the court house making seeking justice very difficult. We were able to participate in one of the very first bench trial through the zoom video platform and have successfully completed a jury trial through zoom as well. There is an old phrase justice delayed is justice denied. Covid has delayed justice for many of our clients but we continue to fight every day to get justice by telling the truth about our clients and their injuries.

How did you build a successful practice?

Tell the truth. We need to always keep the moral high ground so telling the truth is critical to building a successful practice.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

A lawyer that has the time to effectively manage their case. All too often a lawyer will shift case responsibilities off to a subordinate Ask your attorney how many clients they personally are carrying. Please remember big numbers of clients may sound impressive but what you should understand is that if an attorney has 50-100 clients that means that you are merely a number and your case may not get the attention that it deserves. We have sued attorneys for malpractice who have upwards of 200 clients that they manage for personal injury claims. No attorney can manage that many clients effectively.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

All litigation attorneys should be running focus groups in the community. The best attorney is the one that is prepared. Finding out before trial what facts are important to a perspective jury is critical to success. Knowing what is important to the people who will hear your case is invaluable. All too often Attorneys think they are smart enough not to ask the community what they think about the case facts and they get burned. Running the case past a focus group has the added benefit of practicing presentation. I subscribe to the belief that all cases can be won if the case facts are told truthfully. All too often insurance defense attorneys want to spin the truth and manipulate a jury. Knowing before you get to court what will and will not resonate with a jury is crucial to success.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

We provide basic details about the types of claims which you may have and generally what the cost will be. We cannot and will not provide a guaranty, but we will provide a roadmap based on the basic facts presented.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

We need the basic facts about what is going on and we need brutal honesty about what is happening and why. It will not help you in your case if you are holding facts back because the facts are embarrassing.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

Far too often other lawyers do not do the work. For instance in a personal injury case attorneys fail to talk to the treating doctors or the friends and family of the victim. Too often attorneys will rely on what the insurance company tells them the case is worth without doing the work necessary to understand the injury. Starting from the end in mind is also crucial. We start each case with an expectation that the case will go to trial. Preparing from the beginning as if the case will be tried to a jury give us a distinct advantage over the defense and other lawyers. When your attorney prepares your case to settle he sells the case short. I have seen the mass advertising attorneys strong arm their clients into settling for a small fraction of what there case is actually worth merely because the attorney has to force a settlement because they are over their head. Too often attorneys turn into used car salesmen selling their clients down the river as if they are worthless. We do things differently.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Listening to those people who feel like no one is listening. Giving a voice to the people who feel who feel powerless.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I love outdoors activities. I have a big family and we love to go camping, hiking, paddle boarding. We love to play at the lake in the heat of the summer and ski or snowboard in the winter. I have been a wrestling and football official and coach but right now that has been placed on the back burner so that I can spend more time with my family.

Are you involved in your community?

Right now I am not as involved as I have been in the past. When I get out of work I go home to spend time with my family. I used to work as a coach for high school football and wrestling and one day when my children are bigger I will return to coaching. I also worked as an official for wrestling and football but right now I spend my time officiating the family sqaubbles.
