Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

This past year I won a 2.8 million dollar judgment against the County of Nassau in a class action lawsuit concerning the County's violation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Civil Service Employees Association when it failed to place employees who have been promoted into the correct step in the salary plan. Over 200 employees were effected. Gildersleeve et al and CSEA v. County of Nassau.

How did you build a successful practice?

I have spent the last 31 years building what I hope is one of the best employee and union oriented law firms in the State. Meticulous attention to detail, unsurpassed preparation and an emphasis on the needs of my clients are the standards my firm adheres to. My track record in obtaining some of the largest jury awards and judgments in discrimination cases and employment cases is a source of pride in the firm.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

First and foremost, knowledge in the particular area of law at issue. Second, experience and success. Third, responsiveness and the ability to find creative solutions to the client's problems.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

It is always important to know the audience you will be before. Knowing the judges and their likes and dislikes is key to success in the courtroom. You also have to know the community the jury will be drawn from.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

Basic information, I prefer not to do telephone consults as I want to see all the documentation the potential client has and have a face to face meeting so everything can be developed more fully.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

Name, phone number, email address, basics of the case, who, what, when, where. Name of employer, nature of the complaint, how many employees are there, date and time of incident, what paperwork do you have, are you a union member or have a written contract of employment.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

I am a Martindale Hubbell AV rated attorney of long standing, Super Lawyer for many years, Long Island Pulse Legal Eagle of many years, a known winner in my field and a tenacious opponent with a great track record.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Winning one for the little guy, going out there against the odds and obtaining justice for my clients who are usually unable to match the monetary punch of their employer.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

My son is a Division One college Fencer and my Daughter is a premiere soccer player so traveling around the Country taking my children to their games and tournaments is a prime interest of mine.
