About Luis
Mr. Cabassa is Board Certified by the Florida Bar as an expert in labor and employment law. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1995 after graduating with honors from the Florida State University College of Law. Mr. Cabassa graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Industrial Labor Relations in 1992.
Since 1997, Mr. Cabassa has limited his legal practice to matters arising out of the employment relationship. During this time, Mr. Cabassa has represented employers and employees in all stages of litigation in federal and state courts throughout Florida. Mr. Cabassa has published a number of professional articles and routinely lectures regarding employment law topics in Florida and across the country.
Mr. Cabassa currently serves on the Board Certification Committee for the Labor and Employment Section of the Florida Bar, where he is responsible for reviewing candidates for Board Certification and preparing the certification exam. Mr. Cabassa also serves as Chairperson-Elect for the Employment Law Committee for the TIPS Section of the American Bar Association. Mr. Cabassa is a co-founder of the Tampa Bay Hispanic Bar Association, and previously served as the organization's first President. Mr. Cabassa has been appointed by the Florida Supreme Court to serve on a local committee charged with investigating allegations related to the unauthorized practice of law. Mr. Cabassa also serves on the Board of Directors for several organizations, including Bay Area Legal Services, the Warrick Dunn Foundation, the America Prepaid Legal Institute and the Puerto Rican Bar Association of Florida.
Over the last decade, Mr. Cabassa has also served as a member of the Board of Governors for the Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division, a member of the Federal Practice Committee of the Florida Bar, and Chairperson for the Labor and Employment Section of the Hillsborough County Bar Association.
Mr. Cabassa has received an AV rating, the highest rating for a lawyer by Martindale-Hubbell. Only about 2 out of 10 lawyers earn this rating. The "AV" rating identifies a lawyer and firm with very high to preeminent legal ability and is the highest reflection of expertise, experience, integrity and overall professional excellence. Mr. Cabassa has been selected as a Florida Super Lawyer in Employment Law denoting status as one of the top five percent of Florida's lawyers and as a member of the Legal Elite in Employment Law by Florida Trend Magazine representing approximately two percent of the active Florida Bar members who practice in Florida. Mr. Cabassa is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation. The Fellows of the American Bar Foundation is an honorary organization of lawyers, judges, law professors and legal scholars whose professional, public, and private careers have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the welfare of their communities and leadership in and contribution to the legal profession. Membership in The Fellows is limited to one-third of one percent of all lawyers in America, with members being nominated by Fellows in their jurisdiction and elected by the Board of the American Bar Foundation.
