Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

I was recently able to resolve a difficult custody and visitation case by helping both parents to put aside their differences, and do what was in the best interests of their children, while still addressing the concerns of my client.

How did you build a successful practice?

For over twenty five years I have been responsive and sympathetic to my clients, courteous and professional to opposing counsel and the courts, well prepared, timely and willing to go the extra mile for a good result.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Clients should look for a lawyer who communicates well, that they feel comfortable with, who understands the issues and the law, and who inspires confidence. A lawyer should be honest and forthright with their clients.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Based on my experience, I think local knowledge is very important. Knowing a judge's tendencies, preferences, likes and dislikes all contribute to obtaining the best possible results. Having good, local experts and other resources is very valuable.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

I always take the time to listen to the issues and concerns of the caller in the initial free consultation. I try to advise them of the legal standards of their case and the possible outcomes. I share my opinions on their issues, the cost of the representation, the time it will take, the obstacles they may face, and the likelihood of success.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

I need to know the basics of a client's case- the who, what, where, and when, if that information is available. But basically, I only need what the client wants to share.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

Experience, integrity, knowledge, drive, work ethic, and compassion all contribute to make me stand out in the legal community.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Knowing that I have really helped to improve a client's life is the most rewarding aspect of my job. Some lawyers keep copies of big settlement checks as "trophies". I keep phone messages from clients thanking me for reuniting them with their kids, or helping them to move on from an accident or a bad relationship or a probate problem. Helping people is the most rewarding part of my job.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I am a family man, involved in my kids' lives. I love the outdoors here in Michigan. I love to hike, bike and golf, visit with friends and family, and enjoy some of the great food and culture in our region.

Are you involved in your community?

Yes, I am involved in improving the court system by sitting on multiple court related committees, and acting as a guest speaker at Wayne State Law School and the University of Detroit Law School. I coached youth sports for many years. I participate in charitable and faith based organizations.
