How did you build a successful practice?
In my office we make every attempt to be honest with the client in assessing the case and the value of the case, charging a fair price, and being diligent in representation.

How important is local knowledge?
Local knowledge of the Judge has some importance in representation. For example, some Judges in Criminal cases revoke you on your first Motion to Revoke probation. Another example might be that, some local counties might be easy to deal with in certain types of Criminal cases, such as DWI cases. For Social Security Disability, some social security Judges are looking for certain types of arguments by the attorney. On Accident and Injury cases, some Judges are known to favor Insurance Companies over an injured person. This knowledge is important to the case.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
The costs of representation; An opinion of the case based upon what the client knows about the case; Some discussion of the law applicable to your case.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
Criminal - What were you arrested for and when; Are you on probation or parole and for what charges; What have you been convicted of before; What have you been arrested for before; and what evidence is there against you such as witnesses or your own confession. Social Security Disability - Your age; Education; The date you last worked; What kind of jobs were you doing; A list of your disabilities; A list of your symptoms such as pain, numbness or dizziness; The number of operations you have had and for what. Auto Accidents - Who got the ticket; What are your injuries; Have you seen a Doctor; When did you see a Doctor; Have you missed any work? How badly damaged was your vehicle; How badly damaged was the other vehicle. Long Term Disability Insurance, also known as ERISA - Have you applied; were you denied?; Have you applied for Social Security Disability?

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
Most importantly, I have practiced extensively in the same three basic areas that are closely related for about 27 years. Therefore, throughout my career I have been able to learn in each area and apply it to other areas of my practice. For example, because I have been doing Social Security Disability for so many years; I am well aware that many of my clients who are charged with crimes have emotional problems. I can bring this to the attention of the court or the Prosecuting Attorney. Another example is that because I have been doing Social Security Disability for so long I am very familiar with the physical requirements and mental requirements needed to do work. The Long Term Disability Insurance companies often ignore those factors when deciding that someone is not disabled form working.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
I learn something new everyday. I find representing people very rewarding.

What are your other interests in addition to law?
I have been doing a public access show in Corpus Christi, Texas for about 14 years, Voices of the Coastal Bend. I interview Judges; Attorneys; Priests and Ministers; And, persons in politics such as on City Council. The newer shows are on Youtube: markdicarlolaw Many more of the shows are posted on my website http://markdicarlo.com/voices_of_the_coastal_bend.html. I also maintain the older four plex that I practice law in, Formerly, "La Solana Apartments". For the sake of historical continuity, we now refer to the building as "La Solana Bldg."

Are you involved in your community?
I spend my time practicing law on behalf of my clients in a socially responsible manner. However, my historical office and my public access show, Voices of the Coastal Bend, are my primary contributions to the community.

Social Security Disability - 25% of the past due benefits, if any. Criminal Cases - variable. The fee if a plea bargain is reached is substantially lees than for a jury trial. The more serious the crime, the higher the fees. In the event I make the Bond 1/2 of the bond fees are applied towards attorney fees. The fee for a bond is 10% of the amount of the bond. So a $10,000.00 bond costs $1,000.00. $500.00 of that fee will be applied towards your attorneys fees.
