Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I worked on a divorce case for over four years that we finally resolved last year. This involved a marriage of over 35 years and a minor child. Wife never worked and was solely dependent on husband for her survival. Husband kicked wife out of the marital home, locked her out of her bank accounts and left her without any resources. Throughout the divorce, husband refused to pay wife any marital support or give her access to any resources, despite a court order to do so. After four years and countless trips to court we were able to obtain a court order for significant assets and marital support for 15 years. My client was able to live the life she deserves.
How did you build a successful practice?
I began my legal career as a Captain in the Air Force. I spent most of my time in the Air Force as a criminal defense attorney traveling the eastern seaboard and Panama defending military personnel accused of crimes. From there I spent several years at a large national law firm in Denver as a commercial litigator. From these experiences, I learned that it is necessary to be responsive to your clients and have good work ethic if you want to have a successful practice. Most importantly, accessibility is key. It is imperative to communicate with your clients in a timely manner and be accessible to your clients.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients want results. Without decent results, nothing else matters. Aside from that, you should have a lawyer that communicates well with you and the opponent so there is never a question about what is expected and what is reasonable.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge can be helpful to the extent other lawyers and judges will know you and your reputation (good or bad) will precede you. It is often helpful in getting good outcomes if you are familiar with your opponent's counsel (civil or criminal).
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
I can provide a general evaluation about your case, strengths and weaknesses, what to expect in a particular case.
