About Martin
As a partner in the firm, Martin C. Kelley concentrates his practice in workers' compensation, medical malpractice, personal injury and probate. He is a 1992 graduate of The Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Lansing, Michigan and was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1992. He completed his baccalaureate studies at Loyola University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois.
In 2000 Martin Kelley was instrumental in securing a $2.7 million judgment in a medical malpractice case in federal court as well as a $1 million medical malpractice settlement in 2004. In 2002 he assisted in another medical malpractice case brought under the Federal Tort Claims Act that was tried successfully in federal court garnering a $280,000 judgment. In 2006 he litigated and settled a $20 million contested estate in probate court. In the last two years he has secured several settlements in excess of a million dollars in matters involving complex civil litigation.
He is noted for his aggressive advocacy in workers' compensation and is well versed in the rapidly changing legislation on workers' compensation and employer liability. In 2007 he was listed in the Illinois Super Lawyers Magazine as one of the top workers' compensation lawyers in Illinois. As one of the more formidable advocates for injured workers in the Northwest suburbs, he receives referrals from members of the legal and insurance communities as well as union representatives. Clients have come to him with their claims and he has victoriously prosecuted their case before an arbitrator and subsequently the Illinois Industrial Commission. However, in his client's interest of avoiding protracted and costly litigation, Martin Kelley possesses a keen appreciation of the art of settlement negotiations, that was most recently demonstrated in negotiating the settlement of several cases involving myocardial infarction which had been previously denied on the basis of lack of causation relative to employment.
His professional affiliations include the Illinois State Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association - Pro Bono Guardian Ad Litem Committee, Cook County Mandatory Arbitration - Chairperson, Northwest Suburban Bar Association, Northwest Suburban Bar Association - Pro Se Committee Chairman and the Illinois Worker's Compensation Lawyers Association. In 2006 he was appointed to the Board of the Northwest Suburban Bar Association to serve as its attorney. In 2007 he was elected to the Board of Governors of the Northwest Suburban Bar Association.
Martin Kelley's civic involvement includes serving as a member of the Stewart Club, Palatine Rotary - Officer, Paul Harris Society Member, Palatine Lions Club - Board of Directors, Palatine Jaycees, Shannon Rovers Pipe Band of Chicago - Officer, Hoffman Estates Chamber of Commerce - Member, Palatine and Barrington Chamber of Commerce, Spinal Cord Injury Association-Planning Committee, and Inverness/Palatine Arts Council. He is also a Precinct Captain and Executive Committee member of The Palatine Republican Organization (TOPPER).
He also serves as his class representative for the St. Viator Alumni Association.
