About Yasmine
Yasmine Mehmet graduated with an honors degree in political science from McGill University in Montreal, Canada in 1986 and received a law degree from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada in 1990. Ms. Mehmet completed her mandatory articles in 1991 and then practiced law as a sole practitioner in Vancouver from 1992 to 1996 focusing on family and civil law litigation. She came to California in 1996 and after writing the California Bar exam, commenced practicing law as a sole practitioner in San Francisco in 1998. Ms. Mehmet began her association with Schapiro-Thorn Inc. in 2000.
Her practice at Schapiro-Thorn is focused primarily on various family law issues, including dissolutions, property divisions and custody and visitation matters. She also has experience in areas that overlap with family law matters, including collection defense issues, guardianships, and restraining order matters.
Since being called to the Bar, she has been an active member of the legal community as a volunteer Settlement Conference Master for the San Francisco Unified Family Law Court. Additionally, through her involvement in the Family section of the Bar Association of San Francisco, she organizes a monthly series of seminars on topics of interest to family law practitioners. She is a member of the Volunteer Legal Services Program of San Francisco and has received annual awards for her contribution to that organization for the last several years, including the James P. Preovolo award for outstanding pro bono services in family law.
She speaks French, Swedish, and basic Spanish.
