Garret S. DeReus is an experienced civil rights and personal injury attorney with over a decade of litigation experience. As a partner at Bizer & DeReus, Mr. DeReus has dedicated his career to litigation and advocating for individuals whose rights have been violated. Mr. DeReus handles civil rights cases, personal injury claims, nursing home abuse, and medical malpractice. He has successfully handled more than 500 civil rights cases and has extensive experience in all aspects of litigation, from pre-litigation development through appellate work. His civil rights practice encompasses prisoner rights, disability rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act, excessive force, education access, and government accountability cases. Mr. DeReus serves as lead counsel in high-stakes federal litigation and has secured significant victories at both the trial and appellate levels. Notable achievements include successful appeals to the Fifth, Ninth, and Tenth Circuits, with the Tenth Circuit establishing favorable precedent regarding the repeated violations doctrine in a Title II ADA case. In January 2024, Mr. DeReus first-chaired a federal jury trial in a First Amendment case that resulted in a plaintiff verdict, securing $205,000 in damages. Mr. DeReus has successfully opposed challenges from major corporations, including a groundbreaking ADA case against Uber Technologies for wheelchair accessibility. He has negotiated over 200 settlements, consent decrees, and judgments, including systemic changes to New Orleans' public transportation system that made the historic St. Charles Avenue Streetcar accessible to wheelchair users. Mr. DeReus earned his J.D. from Tulane Law School in 2013 as a Dean's Scholarship Recipient and his B.B.A. from The George Washington University in 2010, graduating summa cum laude.

J. Reed Poole, Jr. is an attorney based in the New Orleans Office of Irpino, Avin & Hawkins. He is admitted to practice law is the States of Louisiana and Texas and is an active member of their respective bar associations. He is also admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Louisiana. His primary practice areas include premises liability; automobile accidents; general negligence; personal injury; workers’ compensation; insurance coverage disputes; commercial transactions; property damage and warranty claims; commercial lending, residential lending, and consumer lending disputes; real estate law; and criminal law matters. Reed’s education includes an undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University in Economics and a Juris Doctorate from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law. Reed’s past work experiences include a significant amount of trial experience in the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office, and subsequently, he served as counsel for a Fortune Fifty corporation handling the defense and subrogation rights for the company in casualty claims. Reed is married with two children and resides in New Orleans, Louisiana. He currently serves as a representative in the House of Delegates for the Louisiana State Bar Association and is an appointed member of the Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee. He is also an active junior member with the Fore!Kids Foundation which sponsors the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and fishing.

Andrew Bizer is the founding Partner at Bizer & DeReus and is admitted to practice law in Louisiana and New York. Andrew graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 2003 and Tulane University in 1997. He has been advocating for the rights of the disabled since 2010. He has successfully litigated hundreds of cases under the Americans with Disabilities Act. He prides himself on his close relationship with all of his clients. He is a member of the 9th Ward Marching Band and the Valparaiso Men’s Chorus

Eva has dedicated her legal practice to advocating for Louisiana’s most vulnerable residents. She graduated from Barnard College in 2016 and Tulane Law School in 2021. She began her career in legal aid as a staff attorney at Southeast Louisiana Legal Services where she represented survivors of intimate partner violence in civil cases in Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes. She then worked at Louisiana Fair Housing Action Center representing tenants facing eviction in Orleans Parish. She is excited to bring her passion for social justice and civil rights to Bizer & DeReus. In her free time she enjoys walking her dog Joni along Bayou St. John and cooking meals for her friends.

LaCrisha McAllister is Counsel in our Products Liability and Mass Tort practice group. A recent law school graduate, Ms. McAllister is passionate about achieving justice for unsuspecting consumers, employees, and families exposed to harmful products and chemicals.

Harrece Gassery is an attorney licensed to practice in the state of Louisiana. His interests include Criminal Defense, Criminal Appeals, Civil Rights Violations, Personal Injury, Social Security Disability and Veterans Benefits Claims. As a law student he completed externships at the Innocence Project and East Baton Rouge Public Defender’s office. He was also a member of the Public Interest Law Society, Black Law Student Association, and Christian Legal Society. He is a man of faith, and it is this faith that drives his want to help those in need and work zealously on their behalf.

Criminal Court is a place where someone's life can be irrevocably changed for the worse. I have born witness to incredible injustice being done to innocent people. I have also seen a person sacrificed and thrown away by the system without being given any chance at redemption. Seeing these stories play out is what drives me as a defense attorney, to protect people from being crushed by the system.
