About Michael

     Michael John Aloi, is a founding partner of the Law firm of Manchin & Aloi, which was established in Fairmont, WV in 1983. He graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1980 with honors. He is a 1983 graduate of the West Virginia University College of Law where he was the only member of his class to receive both Order of the Coif (top 10 % of class) and Order of the Barristers.

     Michael is Past President of the West Virginia State Bar (2002-2003) and was recognized as Pro Bono Attorney of the Year by the Appalachian Center for Law and Public Service in 1997, and was recognized as the West Virginia Trial Lawyers Member of the Year in 2001.  In April 2006, Michael was honored as a Foundation Fellow of the West Virginia State Bar Foundation.  He received a Certificate of Merit from the WV State Bar in 2008 for outstanding service. He has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America for ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) and is listed as one of only five lawyers in the state of West Virginia as a Super Lawyer in the field of ADR.  He is the only lawyer in West Virginia to be a Fellow of the American College of Civil Trial Mediators. He received an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell.

     Michael is the past Chairperson of the West Virginia State Bar ADR Committee (2005-2008).  He presently serves as an Arbitrator/Mediator for the American Arbitration Association (AAA) and has served as an Impartial hearing officer for the West Virginia Department of Education.  He is one of the original mediators selected and trained for the US District Court for WV, Northern District Settlement Week Program in 1987. He has served as a mediator for over twenty years and has mediated over 2000 cases. He has also served as a member of the U.S. Magistrate Selection Panel and U.S. Magistrate Review Panel for the U.S. District Court for WV, Northern District. 

     Michael is President-elect of ACR, The Association for Conflict Resolution (2008-2009). He is a past member of ACR's Board of Directors, past co-chair of the Spirituality Section of ACR (2005-2007), and he served as a conference tri-chair for the 2007 ACR Conference held in Phoenix, Arizona.

     Michael is an Adjunct Professor at the West Virginia University College of Law, where he is a Clinical Law Program Supervisor.  He also teaches Negotiation in the West Virginia Wesleyan College MBA Program. 

     Michael lectures nationally on the topic of a more holistic approach to the practice of law and conflict resolution. During his year as State Bar President he encouraged lawyers to find Balance in personal and professional life and emphasized a more holistic and humane approach to the practice of law.
