About Michael

Effective Legal Representation, Every Step of the Way
When you’re dealing with criminal charges or suffering caused by negligence, you demand the best possible legal representation. I’m proud to provide exactly that through my practice, Gardiner Law: Michael J. Gardiner Attorney at Law.

Academic and Professional History
I’ve always been passionate about the great state of Rhode Island. I’ve lived here for decades, creating strong community connections and an even stronger love for the place I’m proud to call home. I attended Cranston High School East, followed by the University of Rhode Island. I proudly served with the Rhode Island Army National Guard for several years. I then attended the Western New College School of Law, where I earned my Juris Doctor in 1989. I passed the bar examination in Rhode Island on my very first try, and soon after, passed in Massachusetts.

After serving as a clerk for a law firm in Springfield, Massachusetts, I returned to Rhode Island in hopes of embarking on a rewarding legal career. I am proud to say that I’ve since realized my greatest professional ambitions, although it’s taken a lot of grit and determination along the way.

Currently, I offer a variety of legal services through Gardiner Law: Michael J. Gardiner Attorney at Law. My law firm has a strong reputation throughout the state of Rhode Island, forged through decades of hard work and exceptional service. I am proud of the legacy I’ve created, but certainly not about to rest on my laurels. I treat every client as an individual, working hard to provide the best possible representation, regardless of my successful background.

My Approach to Law
I believe that it pays to be represented, every step of the way. My clients appreciate my professional conduct and my extensive legal knowledge. They also know that, when they work with my law firm, they’ll receive personalized representation. I tailor each case according to the client’s unique situation; this client-centric approach makes all the difference.

I’ve handled numerous legal matters through the years, but currently, my chief areas of focus are criminal defense and personal injury. Both practice areas require aggressive representation. I advocate confidently and passionately on behalf of my valued clients.

If you’re ready to learn more about my professional history and current approach to law, I encourage you to reach out. I’m happy to discuss your case, so get in touch today.

Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

A client was going to be swindled out of half of her home by a partner. The first lawyers she talked to alarmed her by calling the other attorney and talking "" deal"" as if she should make a deal. She retained me and the Judge ordered the other party out of the house by 4 P.M. that evening A client recovered from a retail establishment for a slip and fall during a snow event. Two clients recovered in a premises case for damages incident to a critter problem A client was successfully defended from allegations of embezzlement and misappropriation.

How did you build a successful practice?

I was trained to defend negligence and so represented many clients both individuals and businesses>i was also a Panel defender in the Federal Court, and I'm a full real estate broker and know Landlord tenant law as a matter of my own interests, very well. We embrace technology which aids in communications with the client and the professional and insuring parties who compensate our clients for harm

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Good direct communications and mutual loyalty builds the bond of trust and confidence, and, of courses a track record of ability to perform in any court at any level, including appeals

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Local knowledge is very helpful, but the locals who oppose you can be managed well with legal knowledge and awareness of how to build a record that protects client rights against " local" outcomes

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

I love to get an email, as the client will take a moment to organize the facts, and I can respond in writing, so they can read what I say as often as they need to. I can envelope a plan with them, and if we agree to further services, the client will know what the agreement is. Text is also helpful, and I love when clients remember to take pictures at the scent of the accident and of their injuries, and send them to me right away.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

We have the technology now where people can commonly send me the accident report or their lease, or any other document or photograph by text or email. Pictures and documents really do save a thousand words.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

My long reliance on technology has made me a very direct communicator. Mostly, they talk to me, and don't feel like they are being moved to someone who can't really help them

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Getting people compensated for their injuries really repairs an injury in their life and restores them to full activity and their right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, unimpaired by what others have done or caused

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I'm an active Real Estate Broker. Real estate is the foundation of the wealth of the American middle class. I want my clients to have a a checking account, have a credit card, have credit, have a home for their families, own their home, and be secure in it all. To me, helping my clients prosper means making sure they have property

Are you involved in your community?

I have published numerous Op/Ed pieces in publications locally. have taught many sections of legal seminars for fell attorneys, I'm a cantor at my place of Worship, and I'm definitely a person people turn to when they need help in a very private way. I'm not known only as a criminal defense lawyer, nor only as an injury lawyer. And I'm known as a fully licensed broker too. So, there's no assumption that goes with my representation, It carries with it an image of innocence and legitimacy and maybe just something has harmless as, perhaps, real estate representation legal or merely for a transaction.
