About Michael
Michael Kassak is chair of the Intellectual Property Practice Group and a partner in the Litigation Department. He has developed a recognized expertise in litigating large, complex commercial matters in the areas of intellectual property, securities litigation, class action litigation, Federal RICO and New Jersey state RICO, D&O claims, defamation, First Amendment, ERISA, professional malpractice, construction, insurance fraud, insurance coverage and suits against surety bond agents. He has succeeded in getting consumer fraud claims dismissed on summary judgment in bet-the-company construction litigation as well as in suits against insurance brokers. He has also successfully defended clients against allegations under the New Jersey Insurance Fraud Prevention Act.
Mr. Kassak has extensive trial and appellate experience in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He recently served as litigation counsel for the liquidation trustee of an insolvent employee benefit plan located in New Jersey which involved claims against the plan's trustees, staff, and professional advisors. As a result of this litigation, the litigation trustee was able to recover more than $11,000,000 for the benefit of the creditors of the insolvent plan.
Mr. Kassak recently served as a panelist at a breakfast seminar presented by KYW Newsradio and White and Williams. The event called, "Your Brand's Bottom Line: What Every Business Owner Needs to Know about Intellectual Property," included topics ranging from "next steps" for infringement to fraud and irreparable harm.
Mr. Kassak received a B.A. from Rutgers University in 1981 and his J.D., with honors, from Rutgers-Camden School of Law in 1984, where he served as Notes and Comments Editor for the Rutgers Law Journal. He is a member of the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Camden County Bar Associations. Mr. Kassak is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and is admitted to appear before the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania and the District of New Jersey. He also teaches continuing educational courses for both peers and professionals. Mr. Kassak has been AV rated by the Martindale-Hubbell peer review rating system.
