About Michael

Mike was born on October 21, 1969.  He graduated from Bishop Miege High School in Shawnee Mission, Kansas in 1988.  He graduated from Harvard University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. 

After college, Mike worked for three years before returning to law school.  He graduated from the University of Kansas Law School in 1998.  While in law school, Mike wrote for the University of Kansas Law Review and was invited to join the Order of the Coif.  After graduation, Mike practiced for four years in the areas of medical malpractice and personal injury defense litigation, as well as insurance coverage litigation. 

Mike joined the Sly James Firm in 2002, where he focuses his practice on the areas of plaintiff's nursing home negligence, medical malpractice and personal injury litigation.  Mike has litigated in Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Illinois, Texas, California, Massachusetts, and Wisconsin.  He has tried cases in both State and Federal court.

 Mike is currently the Vice-Chair of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association's Nursing Home Negligence Committee.  He is also the Vice-President of Missouri Watch, a consumer rights organization dedicated to protecting the rights of individuals from wealthy special-interest lobbies.  Mike is a member of the KCMBA, the Missouri Bar Association, the Kansas Bar Association, and the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys.

Mike co-authored the KCMBA - Business Torts Handbook's section on Tortious Interference with Contract.  He also authored the Missouri Bar Deskbook supplement on Interrogatories and Depositions.
