"Bankruptcy and the Perishable Commodities Act"
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I have represented a mother in Texas in successfully regaining custody of her child located in Georgia. Was able to arrange child support and visitation. I also represented a bankruptcy debtor with a large tax problem and was able to successfully discharge all taxes in the bankruptcy.
How did you build a successful practice?
I have built a successful practice by being immediately responsive to my clients. I answer the phone and respond to emails. I provide my cell number to my clients. I work hard for my clients and charge reasonable fees. I have been practicing over 20 years in various sectors of the law. Most of my new clients come through referrals from former clients.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should choose a lawyer that they are comfortable in the knowledge that the lawyer will have experience and will work to the best of their abilities. Clients should not have to be worried about excessive attorney fees. Flat fees should almost always be quoted. The lawyer must diligently respond to all phone calls and emails.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
It is important for the lawyer to have a good working relationship with all the Judges and their staff. The lawyer should have contacts at all clerk's offices. Finally, the lawyer should have established relationships with other lawyers. If a question arises outside of the lawyer's expertise, the lawyer should be able to pick up the phone and get advice from another lawyer.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
I am more than willing to discuss all details of the case in the free phone consultation, no matter how long it takes. I can usually quote fees following this consultation.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I am a 1990 graduate of Emory University. I was an editor of the Bankruptcy Developments Journal and I completed an internship with Judge Stacy Cotton. I keep my knowledge updated by attending professional seminars throughout the year.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The most rewarding aspect of my job is getting superb results for my clients.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
My time outside of the office is mostly focused around my family. I have been married for 12 years and I have a 10 year old daughter and a 2 1/2 year old son. My parents live in West Virginia and we visit them when we can.
