A full-time law professor for nearly 20 years before joining The O'Quinn Law Firm, Neil McCabe now serves as lead appellate lawyer for the firm, as well as a trial lawyer.
He has been involved in cases in the trial and appellate courts of Texas, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Arizona, California, Georgia and Florida, in the Federal Fifth and Ninth Circuits, in petitions to the United States Supreme Court, and in arbitrations in Houston and London, England, as well as legal matters in the Bahamas.
Mr. McCabe received a Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law in 1982, then served as a briefing attorney for the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. During law school his many honors included the George T. Barrow Award for the Student Most Likely to Become an Outstanding Attorney and several moot court titles, including Best Speaker, at the following tournaments: the Texas Young Lawyers Association state competition, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York regional, the American Bar Association regional, and the J. Braxton Craven national competition, awarded by Associate Justice John Paul Stevens of the United States Supreme Court.
Having written a dozen law review articles, numerous op-ed and bar journal pieces, Mr. McCabe also has published two books. They are: State Constitutional Criminal Procedure: Cases and Materials (with Catherine Greene Burnett), 1994; and Comparative Federalism in the Devolution Era, 2002. Mr. McCabe won awards from the Texas State Bar Appellate Section in writing Competitions in 2004, 2006 and 2007. He has appeared as a legal expert on many television and radio broadcasts, in the print media, and on worldwide webcasts.
Mr. McCabe is a member of the State Bar of Texas, American Association for Justice, the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, the Houston Trial Lawyers Association and the Houston Bar Association.
