Roundup

A caring and compassionate attorney: For two decades before I became an attorney I worked for some of the largest corporations and government agencies in the world. That meant I had a significant amount of real world experience and unlike many in our field, developed a kind personality along the way. As a senior communications executive I drove strategic communications and crisis management at IBM, JPMorgan, Siemens Healthcare, and Experian. Additionally, I spent six years in Washington, working as a press secretary for two of the most powerful members of the United States Congress. What changed: After a while, I just got tired of working for the nameless, faceless corporations and had enough of the partisan politics of Washington. I decided I wanted to help real people in crisis and focus efforts as a compassionate attorney. And here I am… The most important element in choosing a lawyer is finding the right connection. Divorces can take time. Trusting your attorney is key. Things move a lot smoother if we work well together. Let me be your compassionate attorney. And what better way to get to know me is learn my likes and dislikes. I am a family guy, who enjoys the simple pleasures. Having everyone around the table for dinner is worth a million bucks. I love music – all kinds of music. It is what I use to relax after a long day (with a glass of Scotch, of course). I love food – all kinds of food. My wife is a great cook. I enjoy volunteering in my community. Even though the practice of law keeps me very busy, I still find time to work on giving back. I am a member of the Cold Spring Lions Club, the Our Lady of Loretto Knights of Columbus, United Way of Dutchess County and the Northern Dutchess NAACP. Boy do I hate bullies. And in my line of work I see plenty. I don’t stand for bullies. They better bring their A-Game if they are going to deal with me. I will not stand for my client to be pushed around by their spouse or an opposing attorney. You will not be “nickel and dimed” either. My rates are fair and I will try and work with you. But don’t go crazy here…respect for my time and profession is still required. Prompt payment is much appreciated.

Roundup

Who is Albert E. Norato, Jr.? He is not just some white-collared reclusive lawyer who works for the nice sports care and lavish lifestyle. Mr. Norato is a well-grounded, honest, and dedicated man who fights with a legal passion to represent those in need and uphold justice. Al was originally born and raised in the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. In his early life, he worked for his family business at an Italian-American restaurant in Federal Hill, Providence, RI. Feeling a strong desire to do more than just serve people, Albert decided to enter a career where he not only served the people but would risk his life to protect them. At the age of 21, Al joined the Providence police department. While in the police department, Albert continued to better himself and look for ways to further his career. Within six and a half years, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant while and obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree from Roger Williams University majoring in the Administration of Justice. Ultimately, he earned a Master of Science degree in the Administration of Justice from Salve Regina University. Within 10 years of joining the force, Albert felt that there were many to protect and serve his community than the traditional law enforcement role and decided to pursue a career in law. Albert moved to St. Paul Minnesota where he attended and graduated from William Mitchell College of Law with a Juris Doctor degree. He was also a member of the William Mitchell Law review for two years. During his law school career, he multitasked as a volunteer for the defense counsel as well as an intern for the honorable judge Hon. Robert Lynn in Hennepin County, primarily working on several high profile cases that involved the 1992 assassination of a Minneapolis police officer Jerome Haaf. Eventually, Albert moved back to the East Coast and settled in Suffolk County. In 2000, he joined the Suffolk County Legal Aid Society as a staff attorney for the Family Law Bureau, where he handled a variety of cases. Along with his casework, he handled his own appeals in a truly dedicated fashion. In 2001, he was transferred to the District Court Bureau where he worked in general trial parts and was ultimately permitted to become a member of the D-35 Felony Team. In 2003, Albert decided to open his own legal practice where he handles predominantly every type of criminal action in the State of New York. Outside of his work, Albert Norato Jr. is a Distinguished Past Governor for the New York District of Kiwanis International, a service-oriented international organization whose mission statement is: A worldwide organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time.

Lawyer.com Member Questionnaire Please describe a case(s) in the last year or two where you made a big difference. Working with a same-sex couple where we are on the verge of obtaining permanent residence status for the beneficiary through the Immigration court. Prio counsel didn’t take the time to listen to the clients to really establish the bona fides of the relationship Got a criminal matter dismissed on behalf of a client whose spouse had lied about him in order to obtain government benefits. The client was facing incarceration and was devastated both by the loss of the relationship, the nature of the charges and of course the consequences. We proved that the charges had been fabricated, without subjecting the client to the financial and emotional burden of a trial. How did you build a successful practice? Listening to my clients and working with them. Understanding that the client needs to be part of the process. Providing cost-effective, successful results. What should clients look for in a lawyer? Someone who has the time to handle their case. Someone who will give them an honest assessment of their matter in advance. Someone who is personable and with whom they can establish a relationship of trust. How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases? Knowing your venue and your possible Jury pool can be essential in certain types of cases, especially in personal injury matters. What information can you provide in a free phone consultation? Depending on the type of case that answer will vary greatly. A short conversation can generally point the client in the right direction and put them at ease whether or not they retain my firm. Things like the type of bankruptcy, whether they should be speaking to law enforcement, or whether they have a case at all. What information do you need in a free phone consultation? That answer will vary greatly. Generally, the nature of the case, when, where and how they the matter arose, and then the broad particulars of the matter. What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community? I believe that it is my level of empathy and my ability to visualize situations and present creative solutions that sets me apart. What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? Achieving a successful result for a client where the consequences would otherwise be truly life-changing. Things like saving someone from deportation, or jail, or crushing debt gives me a feeling that is almost indescribable. Its why I continue to practice law. What are your other interests in addition to law? My family of course. I also enjoy staying fit and outdoor activities hiking and cycling. Are you involved in your community? Besides being on the board of a local county bar association, and being on the Bronx 18b panel for appointments to criminal cases, I am a member of the NY Bar Association, and I am affiliated with the National Action Network, and STARR, (Strategic Trans Alliance for Radical Reform.
