About Nik
I did not grow up dreaming of being an attorney. Instead, I have worked all sorts of jobs. I have driven a fork lift in a boat yard, waited tables, bartended. I have unloaded trucks for UPS, I was a process server in Seattle, I have owned restaurants and performed in hundreds of theatrical productions.
I decided to become a lawyer after my parents were involved in a frivolous and expensive lawsuit that wreaked havoc in their lives. I was unhappy with the aloof and unresponsive legal representation they received. My family’s hard earned money was flowing into the lawyer’s coffers and they acted like they were doing my family a favor. I never wanted to feel that helpless again. So I applied to law school.
My mother raised me as a single parent for much of my childhood and worked as a maid and a school lunch lady. I can appreciate the financial struggles that families go through. I have also navigated both of my parent’s end of life issues, and understand the problems inherent in helping aging parents, and the importance of estate planning.
My approach to the practice of law is simple: one on one personal service, attention to detail, and bringing my years of legal and life experience to help you obtain the results you need. If you want a stuffy self-important attorney, please look elsewhere, you have many other options. If you want an attorney that is approachable and sincerely engaged in helping you, I might be your man.
I became a lawyer in 1995 and have been involved in a wide range of practices – criminal defense, elder law, bankruptcy, contract disputes, family law, commercial litigation, consumer law and estates. Since opening my own practice in 2012, I have been focused on bankruptcy, estate planning, and elder law. I have helped many families solve the problems facing an aging parent and organize their estate planning. I’ll bet I have filed more bankruptcy cases than you’ve had slices of pizza!
I purposely operate a small and lean practice – with an emphasis on giving clients personal attention – and that is what sets me apart. I obtained my undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1987 and my legal degree from the University of Montana School of Law in 1995.
