Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
We have successfully worked to stop a foreclosure of a client's principal residence where the client retained us shortly before the date set for the sale of their residence and worked with the bank under the supervision of the bankruptcy court to modify the client's mortgage to a payment and interest rate that was affordable for the client. This allowed the client to retain their home.
How did you build a successful practice?
We built a successful bankruptcy practice in New York by attending to our client's needs, responding to their telephone calls and using the power of the law to protect our client's rights.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
A client should look for a lawyer with experience in the area of law that is needed to achieve their goals. The law firm should have sufficient resources to prosecute the client's case and the time, knowledge and experience to handle the case. The lawyer should also have the integrity to provide the client with his honest evaluation of the case and the range of possible outcomes.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Knowledge of the prevailing local conditions as well as the law, local rules and is essential to the success of a bankruptcy or foreclosure case.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
We prefer to have a potential client come to our offices to discuss their case. We do not charge for initial consultations, which typically last around an hour. During the consultation we can evaluate the client's needs and goals. We then can advise the potential client as to the range of possible outcomes to their case.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
We would like to have the client's paystubs or business profit and loss statements for the last six months, the last two tax returns and a list of their monthly expenses as well as any legal documents that they may have relating to litigation or contracts. Mortgage statements are also important.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
We are a law firm that primarily practices consumer debt issues. We are one of the few firms in the county that practices bankruptcy law. We have a department that is solely dedicated to assisting clients who are in financial distress due to mortgage foreclosure issues. Our team, has years of experience in this area of law.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
We enjoy assisting people who are overwhelmed by crushing debt to achieve financial freedom by getting a fresh start through bankruptcy filings or through the resolution of their mortgage issues.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I am an amateur telescope maker. I am deeply involved in passing the craft of optical fabrication to younger people.
