About Omar
Omar Serrato serves as the Managing Attorney at The Eagle Law Firm, where he leverages over 11 years of experience as a tenacious litigator dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for his clients.
Before establishing The Eagle Law Firm, Omar practiced at a midsized law firm in Claremont, where he led the Criminal Defense, Family Law, and Civil Litigation departments. In his role as a criminal defense attorney, he zealously represented clients during the investigation and prosecution of both misdemeanor and felony charges, including DUI, battery, robbery, domestic violence, sexual assault, child molestation, and murder. As a civil litigator, he advocated for clients with claims involving breach of contract, securities fraud, elder abuse, slander, defamation, professional malpractice, premises liability, negligence, interference with expected inheritance, and disputes over real property ownership. Since founding The Eagle Law Firm, Omar has continued to focus on family law and civil litigation, successfully litigating hundreds of cases to final judgment and achieving outstanding results for his clients.
Mr. Serrato’s extensive courtroom experience includes trying numerous cases across criminal, civil, and family law. He has successfully argued multiple merit hearings in immigration court and participated in multi-million dollar lawsuits involving allegations of securities fraud. Throughout his career, Omar has written and argued hundreds of motions in criminal, family, immigration, civil, and appellate courts, personally appearing in courtrooms from Bakersfield to San Diego, California.
Omar graduated from the University of La Verne in May 2013, where he was an active member of the Public Interest Law Foundation and the Criminal Law Society. While in law school, he interned with the San Bernardino District Attorney's Office as a student intern and bar-certified clerk, gaining invaluable courtroom experience by arguing motions and prosecuting preliminary hearings. He was also a vital member of the Trial Team that placed 3rd in the 2012 ABA Labor Law Mock Trial Competition.

Questions & Answers
How did you build a successful practice?
Building a successful law firm is not just about winning cases or having a prestigious office location. It is about establishing a foundation of trust, nurturing unflappable client relationships, and advocating fiercely for the greater good. These elements are not mere aspirations but essential pillars that distinguish a thriving law practice from the rest. Trust is the bedrock of any successful attorney-client relationship. Clients come to attorneys in times of need, often when they are most vulnerable. They must feel confident that their lawyer has their best interests at heart. Trust begins with competence. An attorney must possess not only a strong grasp of the law but also the ability to communicate complex legal concepts in an accessible manner. Transparency is key; being upfront about fees, potential outcomes, and the legal process fosters trust and sets clear expectations. Confidentiality is another critical facet of trust. Clients must know that their sensitive information is safeguarded, fostering an environment where they can be open and honest. Building trust takes time, but it can be eroded in an instant. Therefore, attorneys must consistently demonstrate integrity and reliability in all their interactions. A successful law practice hinges on resilient client relationships. These relationships are cultivated through empathy, active listening, and regular communication. An attorney should strive to understand the unique needs and concerns of each client, which enhances the attorney's ability to provide tailored legal solutions. Regular updates and prompt responses to inquiries reassure clients that their case is a priority. It's essential for attorneys to manage expectations realistically and keep clients informed about both progress and setbacks. Building such robust relationships requires patience and dedication, but they are invaluable for client retention and referrals. An exceptional attorney is one who is willing to push the boundaries of advocacy to achieve the greater good. This means going beyond the minimum requirements, exploring creative legal strategies, and sometimes challenging existing norms to benefit the client and society at large. Such advocacy involves a deep understanding of the legal landscape, a passion for justice, and the courage to take calculated risks. Advocacy is not just about winning cases; it's about making a meaningful impact. Whether it's fighting for individual rights, advancing social justice, or influencing policy changes, attorneys have the power to drive significant change. This commitment to advocacy not only benefits clients but also enhances the attorney's reputation and the law firm's standing within the community. I guess if I were to sum it up, if you're looking to build a law practice, you have to have a foundation of authenticity that exudes from the way you speak, and the way you represent your clients.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Experience and Specialization: Look for a lawyer with substantial experience in the area of law relevant to your case. Specialized knowledge can be invaluable, as it means the lawyer is familiar with the nuances and common challenges specific to your type of legal issue. For instance, if you need help with a divorce, a family law specialist would be more beneficial than a general practitioner. Reputation and References: A lawyer's reputation within the community and among peers can provide insight into their professionalism and ability. Look for reviews, testimonials, and possibly even case studies that highlight their successes. Personal recommendations from friends or colleagues who have had similar legal needs can also guide you in the right direction. Communication Skills: Effective communication is essential for a good attorney-client relationship. Your lawyer should be someone who listens to your concerns, explains legal concepts in a way you can understand, and keeps you informed about the progress of your case. They should be responsive, returning calls and emails promptly. Strategic Thinking and Problem-Solving: A good lawyer should not only understand the law but also be able to strategize and provide creative solutions to legal challenges. They should be proactive in identifying potential issues and adept in negotiating and mediating disputes. Professionalism and Ethics: It’s vital to choose a lawyer who adheres to the highest ethical standards. They should act with integrity, maintain confidentiality, and prioritize your best interests. This also includes being transparent about their fees and any potential conflicts of interest. Compatibility and Rapport: You should feel comfortable with your lawyer, as you will be sharing sensitive information and relying on their guidance. It's important to have a good rapport and a sense of trust, as this can greatly impact your overall experience and the outcome of your case. Accessibility and Availability: Ensure the lawyer has the time and resources to dedicate to your case. A lawyer juggling too many cases may not be able to provide the attention your matter requires. Discuss their availability upfront to avoid potential frustrations down the line. Cost and Fee Structure: Understand the lawyer’s fee structure and billing practices before engaging their services. Ask for a clear breakdown of costs and whether they charge a flat fee, hourly rate, or contingency fee. This will help you budget appropriately and avoid unexpected expenses.
