About Paul
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Paul has been helping California employers negotiate the complex employment issues presented by the economic challenges of government shut downs and the emergency legislation being enacted to provide relief to businesses and their employees.
If litigation erupts, Paul is a seasoned veteran in the paper wars that are often waged, but his primary objective is to guide the case into position for a favorable settlement for his client. When settlement is not possible, Paul is an accomplished trial lawyer whose professional achievements in the courtroom have earned him the distinguished AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating by Martindale Hubbell® and selection as a California Super Lawyer every year since 2014.
Paul’s experience includes advising clients in real estate matters, including financing and acquisition, and landlord tenant relationships. His real estate litigation experience includes lease and easement disputes, commercial unlawful detainers, and partition and quiet title actions.
His practice also includes a focus on employment. He counsels employers on human resource issues and has extensive experience litigating employment cases, including claims of discrimination, harassment, misclassification, as well as individual and class action wage and hour cases.
Paul’s business litigation experience includes representing majority shareholders in derivative actions and general and limited partners in partnership litigation. He has represented individuals and small businesses in contract disputes, cases involving trade secrets and a variety of other civil matters.
In the age of legal specialization, Paul Avilla has developed a uniquely-broad background in employment, real estate, business and litigation that he brings to bear in advising his clients. That background enables him to quickly learn about his clients’ businesses, assess their needs and develop an effective strategy to solve whatever problem is presented.
Paul has served on the Executive Committee of the Labor and Employment Section of the California State Bar. He was also selected to serve on the committee that drafted the jury instructions that are used in employment jury trials in California. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the William A. Ingram Inn of Court, an organization of attorneys, judges and laws students that promotes professionalism and excellence in the practice of law.
Paul was born and raised in Silicon Valley. He attended UCLA, where he received a B.A. in Economics. He received his law degree from Pepperdine University, where he was a published member of the Pepperdine Law Review and a member of the Moot Court Board.
Paul is also an avid woodworker, metalworker and musician, and enjoys camping, boating, and kayaking with his family.
