About Paul
Paul Wharton is an outstanding trial attorney with more than 30 years of experience litigating a wide variety of complex civil issues. He has successfully handled literally hundreds of complicated cases in the areas of personal injury, medical malpractice, commercial law, family law, and automobile/truck/motorcycle accident litigation. He has also received significant local and national media coverage for his outstanding, high-profile criminal defense work.
After a brief retirement during which he owned and captained a charter fishing boat in Costa Rica, Paul was drawn back home to litigating civil and criminal matters in the greater Chicago area. He has recently opened new offices in Gurnee, Illinois and Palatine, Illinois.
Paul received a B.A. in History from the University of Notre Dame in 1980 and his Juris Doctor from DePaul College of Law in 1983. He has been licensed to practice law in Illinois and in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois since 1983.
Soon after graduating from DePaul, Paul struck out on his own, hung out his shingle and opened a small general practice, Wharton & Ramirez, in Glenview, Illinois. There, he began his career and commenced handling a wide variety of civil and criminal matters.
Four years later, Paul joined the firm of James F. Driscoll P.C. as a senior associate attorney. There, he gained extensive experience in the courtroom while managing a large caseload of personal injury, family law, and criminal matters. Additionally, he then began representing physicians and nurses before the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation.
In 1994, Paul again went out on his own, founding Paul B. Wharton & Associates, a boutique law firm specializing in complex civil and criminal litigation in the Loop, downtown Chicago.
In addition to being its lead trial attorney, Paul supervised and mentored more than twenty young and aspiring litigators at his firm. During this time, Paul personally took more than 150 civil cases to a jury verdict. His success rate exceeded 95%.
Paul also is no stranger to controversial high profile criminal cases. He has previously been seen on multiple local television news appearances, and has previously had his cases featured nationally on ABC's 2020 program and Bill Kurtis's A&E Investigative Reports.
Paul's strong analytical skills and vast Courtroom experience make him a true expert at determining trial strategies and presenting a case to either a jury or a judge. He is excited to “un-retire” and again returns to his life-long hometown to again offer his wealth of big-city legal experience to those in need.
